At the LAPD precinct, Rayna was on her phone.
Rayna: Hey Matt, I've kinda been roped into some shit by an old friend, so I may not be able to make it over to Huntington Beach tomorrow. Did you wanna come down to LA after practice tonight if you're not too wacked? X
She put her phone back in her pocket just as Chloe walked past her, toward the interrogation room, case file in hand.
The room was quite large, for something only used for questioning people and Rayna decided it best to stay out of the way and linger in the corner on the other side of the room to the double doors.
Grant Richardson, better known as 'Torque' within his Biker gang, was the President of the Black Syndicate and – with the accompaniment of his lawyer - the first up for questioning.
"Mister Richardson, do yo-"
"Torque. My name is Torque." The Chapter President interrupted the Detective.
"Not according to the government, it isn't." Chloe sighed, earning a rather annoyed look from the Gym junkie before her. "Mister Richardson, do you know why you've been brought in today?"
"Not a clue. Care to enlighten me, gorgeous?" He smirked, leaning forward into the table.
Chloe placed the case file down on the table, opened it up and placed the crime scene photos in front of him.
"You're familiar with John Beckett." She paused.
"Was that a question?" Mr Richardson raised an eyebrow.
"No. We know full well that you know him. Care to explain how he ended up like this?" Chloe pointed to one particular picture, focusing on the victim's face.
"You don't have to answer that, Grant." His Lawyer piped up.
"Couldn't even if I wanted to. I have no idea how he ended up like that." The Biker President shrugged, the sound of his leather vest creaking as he moved filling the room.
Chloe turned slightly and motioned for Rayna to do her thing.
Rayna smiled menacingly and sat beside the detective.
"Mister Richardson." Her smile turned bittersweet as she looked directly into his eyes. "How's your drug business going?"
"Business is booming." He told her, blankly.
Rayna smirked, taking a split second to look to Chloe, who looked slightly bewildered.
"Who killed your drug runner?" The Vampire asked further.
Torque looked hypnotised and Chloe's interest peaked.
"I have no idea. My guys haven't seen him for days." He replied in monotone.
Rayna blinked, sighed heavily and fell back in her chair, shaking her head as soon as she was aware that Chloe was glancing in her direction.
"Thank you, Mister Richardson, no further questions. Don't leave town." Chloe closed the case file and got up to leave.
"Is that it? You can't just ask some corrupt questions and then dismiss my client like a school child." The Lawyer grew increasingly irritated.
"We believe your client. What's your problem?" Rayna folded her arms over her chest.
The Lawyer closed his mouth, clearly knowing when to shut up.Chloe and Rayna met Lucifer – who had been behind the one way glass - at Chloe's desk.
"Please tell me I didn't just blow off a suspect based on nothing." Chloe leant on the desk, rubbing her face in frustration.
"Why do you think I asked the first question? I wanted you to see some proof." Rayna told her.
"I wouldn't call that proof. I'd just say he was a cocky asshole." The Detective countered.
Rayna frowned, then moved to stand in front of the first uniformed officer who walked by.
She touched his chest to stop him and looked him dead in the eye.
"Officer. Do me a favour; strip down to your underwear and strip tease all over Detective Decker's desk." She compelled.
The officer nodded and began undoing the buttons on his uniform.
Chloe's eyes began to widen, but by the time the shock had surpassed, the officer was taking down his trousers.
"Get him to stop, please!" Chloe shrieked.
"You can stop now, officer. I think I've proven my point." Rayna smirked.
"Yeah, I'll take it." Chloe mumbled, shrinking down in her desk chair.
Rayna glanced to Lucifer, who was trying to suppress a laugh, by the look on his face.Later that day, after piecing together a few more parts of the investigation, Rayna found herself in the Precinct kitchen, making herself a coffee to keep her body temperature up.
"Feeling a little cold to the touch, are we?" Lucifer's voice came from behind her.
"Well, us Vampires have to appear Human somehow." Rayna shrugged, using a bored tone.
"What are you doing later?" He asked.
Rayna turned to face him, leaning against the kitchen counter in the process.
"Meeting the friends who cancelled on me."
Lucifer gave her a small smile.
"Going anywhere nice?"
"Why do you care, Lucifer?" Rayna huffed, impatiently.
"Because I care about you." He replied as though it were obvious.
Rayna sipped her coffee, not making eye contact.
"Now there's a joke." She mumbled.
Lucifer almost looked hurt as he moved towards her.
"Darling, whether you believe it or not, I do care about you." He paused as he got an idea. "Why don't you bring your friends over to Lux?"
Rayna shrugged. "I'm sure I'll come up with a reason as to why that's a terrible idea; give me a minute."
Lucifer moved towards her once more, practically standing right over her short, slender, five foot four frame.
"You shouldn't be hating me, you know. You don't know the full story." He leaned down and whispered against her hair.
Rayna couldn't help the shivers she felt shoot down her spine like tiny electric shocks.
"Then tell me." She countered, placing her coffee cup down on the kitchen top.
Now that her hands were free, Lucifer took them in his, slowly rubbing her smooth, pale skin with his thumbs.
"After we... Took our relationship to the next level, my brother; Amenadiel came to Earth and forced me to go back to Hell. I didn't get to tell you goodbye and that has haunted me for the past three hundred and sixty nine years." He said.
Rayna stared up into his eyes as she took all of this new information in.
"You've been keeping count?" She finally asked.
Lucifer breathed a single chuckle, looking down at their entwined fingers.
"Of course I have." He smiled.
In that moment, Rayna felt a deep weight lift from her chest.
She looked down and separated their hands, sliding herself out from between the counter and Lucifer as she processed the information.
"I need to get some air..." She told him in a hushed tone before making her escape.Rayna stood outside the Precinct and lit a cigarette, inhaling deeply.
As she watched all of the early evening traffic go by, she thought about the night everything had gone wrong.Flashback...
"I love you, Rayna. I did not think I could say this about anyone, but the words simply roll off my tongue when I look into your eyes." Lucifer mumbled against his Vampire's lips.
"I feel the same." She replied. "I love you too."
The pair smiled and Lucifer took her hand, leading her up to her bedroom. They laid together, Lucifer wearing only his shirt and Rayna in just her shift.
"That was perfect." Lucifer whispered, pulling her closer into his side.
"It was." Rayna agreed.
Just then, Lucifer became tense.
"I need to go. I'll be back soon." He said, kissing her forehead as he got out of the bed.
Rayna sat up, pulling the sheets over herself.
"Where are you going?" She asked.
"I'll let you know." He replied.
And in just a moment, he was gone.Rayna waited for hours, eventually getting back into her day dress and going about the rest of her daily duties.
At last, she realised that Lucifer would not be coming back.
She was heartbroken.
It had been centuries since she had been able to tell someone she loved them and this time had turned out worse than the last.
He was gone. She snapped out of her daze when her cigarette had burned down to the butt, burning her fingers.
She dropped it out of instinct, nursing the burnt spot on her fingers, eventually watching it heal.
"Rayna?" Chloe's voice came from behind her.
She shot round, seeing a concerned Detective a few feet away.
"Has there been any news on the case?" Rayna asked after concluding that that could be the only possibility Chloe would be seeking her.
"No, I saw you and Lucifer have the little chat in the kitchen, so I thought I'd check on you." Chloe replied.
"And there I was thinking that you didn't much like me." Rayna chuckled humourlessly.
"Well, we've only just met and I suppose you're not so bad." Chloe winked, walking over to stand by the Vampire. "Are you okay though?"
"Just some old memories coming back to haunt me. This is not how I thought this trip would turn out." Rayna shook her head.
"It looked pretty serious in there." Chloe said.
"Turns out, my loathing for Lucifer was all because of a stupid misunderstanding." Rayna explained.
Chloe paused for a moment, piecing the information together.
"You loved him, didn't you?" She more stated, rather than asked.
Rayna nodded.
"And he loved me."
"Well now that you have the missing part of the puzzle, surely it only makes sense to rekindle that love." Chloe suggested.
"I don't know, he seems..." Rayna hesitated, trying to find the right word. "Different."
"Then get to know him again. If you don't like who he's become, let him go. If you do, well..." Chloe shrugged and nudged the Vampire's side with her own.
Rayna chuckled. "I suppose you're right."
"Come on. You have some decision making to do." The Detective smiled, getting up off her perched position on the wall outside of the Precinct.
