"Darlin'" -Houndmouth
Adam watched his mate as her bottom lip wobbled and green eyes glistened. He sighed to himself at the inevitable surrender that was to come from her pouting. He ran a hand down his face, rubbing at his eye in exhaustion.
"The minute I'm done with this job, I'm comin' back to you."
Wendy looked down at her hands that were picking at the threads of the blanket. She took her time in trying to calm herself, she shook her head, "This is nuts...Is this usually how it goes, the mate bond?
"Does it normally go this quick, I mean...I...You are ready to leave your life behind to come back to a hermit crab," a breathless chuckle left her.
Adam almost laughed, "The only reason I have this job is due to the fact that I have some hardcore parents who sent me to trainin' camps at the age of ten. I have higher officials for family members, meanin' this job means nothin' to me. It was a way to make money until I met my mate. Until I met you."
She didn't speak for a while, the cogs in her head were running fast, "I don't know how to feel about this Adam."
She stopped to take in a deep breath before continuing, "You're taking my big brother away from me. Granted he deserves it but I...I need him, Adam. Not to mention I have only known you for a few days and just recently spoke to you..."
Adam stopped her, grabbing one of the fumbling hands into his, "I'm comin' back, Wendy. I would never leave you defenseless and alone, even if I wasn't your mate. That's not the kind of person I am.
"I just need you to trust me for a little while. I need to do this job or else they'll just send someone else who won't be as gracious or forgivin'. Can you hang on, just for a little while?"
Before she could answer, Bo screeching from the living room was heard. A demand for Wendy to get the first aid kit was heard. She jumped into action, making Adam pout from their hands no longer attached.
He followed after his mate and watched as she grabbed what she needed before skipping into the living room to tend to her brother. Bo lied on his back on the couch, effectively bleeding out from the wound Adam had administered him early on.
Wendy began to tend to him as Adam watched, leaning himself against the wall, his arms crossed over his chest. After the cleaning, disinfecting, and band-aids were given, Adam left for more firewood but was stopped in his tracks from the amount of snow packed against the front door.
Bo noticed and slammed the back of his head on the couch cushion, "Dammit!" he seethed.
"Why are you so upset?" Adam asked, "It's not like you're goin' anywhere."
Bo looked back at him with a sneer, "Why do you have to be such a dick? Throwing it in my face that I'm crippled and now I have to wait to be killed. Great," he grumbled.
"You aren't crippled," Wendy whispered as she cleaned up the first aid.
Bo sent a glare that he hoped would implement effective damage toward Adam. Once his head didn't explode as he wanted, Bo demanded the privacy to talk with his sister. Adam rolled his eyes but gave the blonde what he wanted.
Wendy helped her brother up and walked to her bedroom, "Why are you limping? You didn't hurt your leg."
Bo pushed her, "Shut up," then proceeded to walk normally the rest of the way.
