"Leaning On You" -HAIM
Six Months Later
Adam looked over his shoulder when the sound of wheels crunching on the earth's floor was heard behind him. A smile grew as he threw down the ax onto the stump of wood, grabbing a thin shirt to pull over his head as he made his way to the rusty red pickup truck that was pulling into the driveway.
The sound of Teddy's loud barks of excitement were heard when the large dog rounded the cabin to meet the owners of the truck as they parked. The familiar light and scratchy voice of Em was heard as she gushed over Teddy.
Adam, still with a small smile adorning his face, made his way to the driver's side to embrace the driver himself. With a short hug, a clap on the back, both men released each other with smiles.
"Bo, it's so great to see you!" Adam exclaimed.
Em rounded the front of the truck to meet with the men, Teddy skipping behind her, "Uh, what about me mountain man?"
Adam chuckled lightly before giving the woman a short embrace, "It's great to see you too, Em. Come inside and make yourself at home while I clean up a bit. I've been choppin' wood all mornin'."
The couple gapped up at the brand new cabin. The one where Wendy's little shack once stood. From her absence, in just six months, after Adam had stopped wallowing, he had made the executive decision to tear down the cabin to rebuild one that was worthy of Wendy.
Whenever she was to return.
Inside, everything was brand new, or made by hand by Adam himself. He was angry with himself for a long time after breaking his promise to Wendy but after a slap in the back of the head from Em and a drunken fight with Bo, Adam finally woke up and did something with his time.
He made a home for himself and his mate.
The couple stayed on the first floor, dropping their bags at the foyer and then walking around in pure astonishment. They had left not but a month after Wendy's disappearance. Bo had come clean to Em that they were destined for one another, that he was her soulmate. After a good laugh, and a swift kick to the balls, Em had gotten over her anger with the blonde god and kissed the daylights out of him.
They then planned to drive across the country but only made it to Wyoming, only a few states away, where Em had fallen in love with the place and never wanted to leave. Bo was able to get a job and rejoin pack life where he and Em lived on somewhat secluded land that they owned themselves.
It was only five months later when they finally heard back from Adam. They had tried contacting him many times, only receiving small messages that he was alive and busy. Wendy had not yet returned. But, the last phone call was an hour-long, stating that he had been busy rebuilding Wendy's cabin and that it was finished.
His and his mate's new home was finished and Adam wanted them to come visit.
Adam took a quick five-minute shower and pulled on nothing but a pair of jeans and another plain old shirt he had lying around. He slipped on his work boots quickly before stomping back down the wooden steps of the two-story cabin.
There he met with the couple in the living room to find them talking amongst themselves, "So, you guys want a tour?"
Neither of them answered but spun around to look back at a smiling Adam. The couple gave each other a quick look before Em spoke first, "You doing alright, Adam?"
