 "Adam's Song" -blink-182

Adam couldn't move from his spot in the doorway. Her voice, he thought, was quiet and sweet yet raspy from sleep. A beaming smile emerged from his lips. Something so small and trivial to anyone else, brought a wide grin to his face.

Hearing his little mate giggle with her tall friend those few hours made him happier than he had felt in a long while. A frivolous thing made him weak in the knees, blushing red like a tomato.

But, whispering his name walked the cake.

Adam decided to walk back into the bedroom, bending down by her head. His large hand reached out to pet some of her flyways back as she lied in a fetal position, Teddy sleeping at the end of the bed. Adam used all of his strength not to shoo the dog off the bed, to allow Wendy some legroom.

Adam realized earlier on that he and Teddy had a mutual understanding. The mutt protected Wendy, was there for her when Bo was not, and when Adam will eventually no longer be there either. For that, Adam was grateful that she at least had someone, even if it is just an old dog.

Adam stood to his full height, grabbing the throw blanket near her feet to cover her sleeping body, pulling it up to her chin. A small sigh of content left Wendy from the action. Adam took a leap of faith when he leaned down, pressing his lips to her forehead in a brief kiss to her temple.

The werewolf leaned away, eyebrows furrowed in confusion when he felt how warm her skin felt. Thinking nothing of it, he walked out of the room. When he got to the bathroom, a cough sounding from her room stopped him. He looked back to hear for another, but nothing followed, assuming that his mate was fine.

Adam took that opportunity to look throughout the house. In the bathroom, he had noticed an inhaler and various medicines in the cabinet above the sink. Below it was the same along with toilet paper and bathing supplies.

He moved on, going into the living room. There, he picked up the book he was reading from earlier, deciding to return to it while his mate slept for an hour or so, he would then wake her up for dinner later on. Not but a half an hour later does Adam hear Teddy let out a long whine.

But, again, Adam leaves the two be. He noticed that Teddy did that when he slept when having a vivid dream.

It was then that Adam decided to put the book down again, letting it sit on the coffee table. From there he shut off the television that was left on by Wendy, folded the blanket she used earlier, and then took notice of how low the fire had gotten since morning.

Adam walked to the front door, slipped on her brother's boots that were a tad snug before going out the front door and to the side of the cabin.

Adam left the front door wide open so that when bringing the logs through the house, it would be easier. When he grabbed all that he could carry, covering the wood back with the tarp, he made his way back up to the porch. Just as he began to poke at the fire and throw in the new logs, Wendy coughed violently, almost scaring him in his place.

With the logs and fire long forgotten, Adam stood, making his way to her room with long strides, almost stomping through the cabin. When he sees her, Wendy has the blanket clutched in her hands, pulled up to her chin. Her teeth chattering and her body shivered.

Adam rushed to her side, placing a hand on her back under the blanket to try to get the bond to warm her body, but she continued to shiver, "Wendy..." he whispered as he placed the back of his other hand to her forehead.
