"The Bargain Store" -Dolly Parton
Wendelin was still fast asleep for another hour. Bo along with her. After his and Adam's discussion, the werewolf complained about his injury for a while until sleep took him. Then he was able to complain in his dreams so that Adam no longer had to hear.
Adam spent a moment to himself in the living room. The television was off, the wind from outside was dying down along with the fire. Adam didn't know how long he was staring at the flickering flames until a rustling from his mate's bedroom was heard.
His dissociation broke but he didn't look back into the hallway, thinking it was Teddy moving around. Adam thought of what his best options were. There weren't many, just two, one sounding way more appealing than the other but was served with a side of the inevitable.
If Adam was to stay, to give in to his mate's demands of keeping Bo in hiding at the cabin, building on to the house for the three of them, the inevitable would appear. His pack knows where he is. They know the exact location and once they started 'missing him', they would come looking.
They would find Bo.
Adam shook his head. That would just be more trauma for his mate. Knowing his colleagues, they were ruthless sons of bitches who wouldn't blink an eye when it came to Bo. They would kill him where he stood.
But, Bo needed to go. He had killed many, ruined families, and was doing illegal activities in the process. Although he said it was for good, trying to play Robin Hood, that's not how it worked in the justice system. Higher officials don't give a shit why he did it, just the fact that the deed was done. Now he had to pay for it.
Adam's ear twitched when the sound of a huff coming from Wendy was heard. Adam uncrossed his legs, used the arms of the chair to sit up, and then quietly made his way to the other side of the cabin. With the curtain to her room already pulled back, Adam was able to find the warm glow of her lamp shining on his mate's flushed face.
Her eyes began to flicker open as he stored into the room, sitting next to her on the twin bed. Wendy raised her hands up slightly and Adam took the hint. Grabbing onto her limp hands, he pulls, helping her sit up lazily as she leaned her back onto the wall.
Once she settled and got comfortable, Adam spoke, "Why didn't you tell me? I could have helped you, Darlin'."
She shook her head slowly, picking at the skin around her fingernails, "I'm already embarrassed enough, can we just not talk about it?" She whispered.
He sighed but did as she asked, "Do you want me to get you some of the soup? You haven't eaten anythin' in a while."
With all the courage she could muster, Wendy sucked in a breath and looked into his eyes, "Will you lay with me?"
Adam blinked in slight shock.
Every cell in his body sent an almost electric shock to his brain, telling him to get his ass up and peel back that quilt. But, he took his time, not wanting to scare the daylights out of his mate.
When Adam stood and came closer to her, Wendy made a clicking sound from her mouth, commanding Teddy to jump off the bed, and he did. Wendy scooted herself down and over, her back to the wall to make room for the lumberjack of a man that was Adam.
Adam settled himself the best he could next to her, "How do you sleep with Teddy on this thing? It's so tiny..."
Wendy gave him a small smile and it widened some when he subconsciously wrapped an arm around her, bringing her closer to him, "It's an exact science. If I explained it to you, you wouldn't understand."
