Y/N's POV
"Come on Bunny. We're gonna get you out of here, okay?"

Emilia seemed scared as she nodded, so Y/N gave her a faint reassuring smile that she hoped would suffice: "Just stick close to me, and don't run off, okay? Promise me, Emilia, promise you'll stick close."

"I promise mama." She timidly whispered.

"Good girl."

Chuck walked towards the pair, carrying all the equipment he could. Gally was trying his best to give a sensible reason as to why he was sacrificing Thomas and Teresa.
He sounded insane.

Y/N wondered how it came to this.

Before she knew it, she had taken Emilia into her arms and was leading Chuck to join the rest of their group in front of the Maze; they were finally leaving.

Y/N stayed near the back of the group, slower than the rest due to the young girl she carried in her arms. Newt stayed back as well, he carried all their weapons and belongings; Y/N refused to burden his limp with Emilia.

The Group reached the final battle between them and escape, and Y/N grew so anxious she felt sick.

Lined up behind a wall, she nodded to Teresa in silent agreement to help each other protect Chuck and Emilia.
Throughout the one-sided and violent fight, Teresa and Y/N dragged their wards to the front.

Y/N placed a weeping Emilia against the wall that held the lock. She placed her body in front of Emilia's, protecting her, as Teresa's fingers flurried the code in with yells from Minho.

It was a miracle that Emilia escaped unscratched, however Y/N was covered in cuts and bruises after using herself as a human shield for the girl. Not only that, but she was drained after running with her Bunny in her arms.

But it was worth it, Y/N would protect that little girl with her life.

Frypan scoffed a "Really?" at the luminous green 'EXIT' sign, and Y/N agreed. It was sick humour.

Walking through the door, they were met with carnage. The bloodied lab was littered with corpses clothed in barely white coats, and the technology still eerily lit the room. Guiding Emilia around the horrors, Y/N jumped at the video Thomas triggered.

Clasping her fingers over Emilia's shoulders, Y/N diverted her towards the rest of the group and allowed Newt to encircle her waist with his arms.
A blonde woman appeared in the video, wearing a lab coat with unsettling red lipstick.
She began to explain the 'experiment' they had been living in for 3 years, how they were constantly being watched, why it was 'necessary'. What the Flare was.

Y/N became angry when there was no mention of why sending in a little girl was necessary. These people were simply sadistic psychopaths in her mind.

The end of the video came, along with the horrific sight of the woman raising a gun to her head, and pulling the trigger. Y/N shielded Emilia into her stomach, squeezing her own eyes shut with a gasp.

The doors to the exit pulled apart with a blaring siren. Before they could leave, without a plan but with hope, a voice pulled them back.

"No."

Thomas questioned, "Gally?"

"Don't." Teresa interrupted him, "He's been stung."

"We can't leave."

"We did. Gally, we're out. We're free."

"'Free'? You think we're free out there?" His voice shook, making Y/N tense. Seeing the gun in his hand, she pulled Emilia behind her.
"No. No, there's no escape from this place."

He raised the gun, and Thomas spoke "Gally, listen to me. You're not thinking straight. You're not. And we can help you. Just put down the gun."

"I belong to the maze..."

"Just put down the gun."

"...We all do."

Suddenly, multiple things happened at once. Gally pointed the gun at Newt, and Y/N could feel her little girl run out from behind her.
Minho threw a spear into Gally's chest, dropping him to the floor, seemingly dead.

Y/N stood shocked, watching him bleed out, before a weak voice called out "Mama?"
Slowly spinning around, afraid of what she was about to see, Y/N closed her eyes in fear.

"Bunny?" Her choked voice whispered, before she reached out and caught the little girl's bloodied form in her arms.

Newt's eyes began to water as he fell to the ground beside them, cradling Emilia's head in his hands as he kept repeating "No, no. No, no way. Please, god, no."

Knelt on the floor, tears fell like an uncontrollable waterfall as Y/N held Emilia in her arms, resting her head on Newt's shoulder.
"Ma-mama." She was crying, and crimson blood leaked from her lips.

"Hey, s-sweetie. You're ok. You're ok." Y/N's sobs shook her voice. She knew it was a lie. A bullet went straight through her lung, and without proper medical supplies there was no way she would survive. Her little girl was dying in her arms.

"You're ok, you're gonna be..." she swallowed and closed her eyes before breathing out, "you're gonna be fine."

"Can you sing to me?" Emilia's request brought both Newt and Y/N to gaze tearfully into her innocent blue eyes.

"Uh- uhm. Yeah, of course. Of course."
Aghast, she stared lost into Newt's eyes. She couldn't think of anything to sing. He nodded at her, silently letting her know what to sing.
"Deep in the meadow..."

As she sang with him, she noticed the light leaving Emilia's eyes, her head fell limp as she lost control over her muscles.
Her last breath left her lungs, and Newt and Emilia's tears fell onto her face.

Animalistic screams tore through her throat. She was so angry; angry at Gally, angry at WICKED, angry at herself for not being on time to save her.
Then her anger gave way to grief, and the Gladers surrounded them both as she buried her face into Newt's chest. She clung desperately onto Emilia's body, shaking her as if that would bring her back.
Her family wrapped their arms around them, and were simply there for the grieving couple.

When the soldiers burst into the room, they dragged a screaming Y/N off the floor as a silent Newt simply allowed himself to be guided away, his eyes never left Emilia's body.
Y/N was so hysterical that the soldiers had to give her an anaesthetic to knock her out.
Her unconscious body was thrown into Newt's arms, and he gave the soldiers a death glare.

By the time they arrived at the facility, Y/N's tears had dried on her cheeks, leaving tracks on her face, a physical sign of her grief.
As the soldiers carried her through the doors, they took her away from the group, separating her from her family.
When she woke up, she was lying in a bed, encircled by a privacy partition.
She simply stared at the ceiling, unspeaking.

She wouldn't- couldn't- speak for weeks, even when Newt and the others came, dragging her with them as they escaped WICKED.
Even when WICKED hunted them back to the Right Arm.
Even when they hunted Minho to the Last City.
Not until they escaped to the Safe Haven; not until Newt coaxed her into her first words: "I miss her."

"I know."
