summery: Bucky is kidnapped by hydra from the avengers tower, and they try to get him back, but tony is hurt badly in the process.

Tony was sitting alone in the lab when the call came through. The alarms  bleared and the sirens rang throughout the building - making everyone aware of the emergency.

tony immediately called the suit, and as he walked into the emergency meeting room, the suit fitting itself around him as he was walking in.

"okay, now everyone's here, we have a location on the winter soldier, Bucky. " Cap said as his hands visibly shook from the nervousness of getting so close yet again t bring Bucky back.

Both Steve and Nat had gone on a secret mission a few month ago to find the winter soldier - they found him - but they also found Steve's long lost friend- Bucky. From the help of Sam and Wanda they managed to bring him back to the tower safely. Tony welcomed him into the tower. He helped build a new arm, which was a lot safer for everyone, and helped try to remove the trigger words from his mind.

However before they could help him any further, hydra had tracked down their best agent and kidnapped him from the avengers tower. They had no chance of saving Bucky from them, and they could only watch as he was taken back to the place that tortured him and kept him as a weapon.

It hit everyone hard. Over the months that Buck was there he made friends with everyone. But it hurt Steve the most. he had lost his best friend yet again. And he knew something that could rip his relationship with tony apart.

The winter soldier had killed Howard and Maria Stark - Tony's parents. But he knew how well both Bucky and Tony got on , he didn't want to interfere with that. He knew Bucky needed help, and he selfishly knew that no one but tony could help him, so for the time being he kept his secret, afraid that if tony knew the truth then he wouldn't help Bucky anymore.

He was mistaken of course. In time Tony would be able to see that Bucky was brain washed and help him never the less, because in the short time that tony had know the other super soldier, he had felt something for him that was unlike anything he had felt for anyone in a long time. And it hurt him a lot when Bucky was taken - because not only did he blame himself for not being there, for not having better security measures in place, but because he thought he would never get to tell Bucky that he loved him .

Tony worked night and day to try and find where hydra had take Bucky. He was determined to find him before they could hurt him again. They had made so much progress to try and get him back to normal - to tell him that what had happened wasn't his fault.

Tony didn't sleep. He hardly ate anything and he didn't speak to anyone but JARVIS. It was killing him. But he couldn't live with himself if Bucky never came back - he owed it to him, to Steve. And he thought that if he didn't get him back , if he didn't fix his mistake then they would hate him, kick hi off the team and replace him. He couldn't let that happen - Bucky and this team meant everything to him, and he wasn't prepared to let them down. Not if he could hep it.

He was sitting in the lab when the call came through.

"we'll get him back Cap." tony said before they all got their over view on the mission and went there on way to the location.

There were people screaming. There were building s and cars on fire everywhere and there was only one person in the middle of it all.

the soldier stood tall and proud in the  chaos. The mask covered his emotionless face and in his hand was a gun, pointing right at the tower.

Cap got there just in time. He tackled him to the ground and kicked the gun away. But the soldier pulled out a pocket knife and attacked him with that instead. Steve used the shield to block the blade form his face and neck, and managed to push him away.

Nat made a diversion and distracted the soldier. He chased after her straight into the shopping centre - which had thankfully been evacuated. She hid behind the wall as he walked past. She then jumped up behind him and attacked him. He turned to punch her but she dunked down and punch him in the stomach multiple times before he go her. She tried to get away, jumping up and securing her self around his neck, but he pinned her to the table.

"you could at lest recognise me."

he was then blasted back wards, and tony landed on the floor, making sure Nat was okay. He then walked back over to the soldier and blasted him again. But before he could secure the cuffs he had designed which were super soldier proof, there was an explosion which sent ton backwards, destroying the suit ending him flying over he barrier into the lake below.

Nat and Steve couldn't do anything but watch, as yet another one of there friends were put in a vulnerable position where they couldn't help them. Tony was left without his suit, drowning again in cold water, unable to help himself.

His PTSD from his time in Afghanistan kicked in. He panicked and took in a load of water filling his lungs. He thrashed and tried desperately to get to the surface of the war but it was getting darker, he could sense the familiar doom over come him, sending him further downwards. Spiralling out of control his mind didn't let him move, and soon his eyes were useless in the darkness of the water, and blackness consumed him.

Without any warning or reason, The winter soldiers black eyes flashed with a flicker of icy blue colour  that were normally Bucky's. He ran over the edge where Tony's body had just fallen and jumped over the edge and Steve could only watch as his best friend from the 40's was about to kill his best friend for the 21st century. A warm tear slide down his face. 

However Bucky had dived down and spotted the lifeless body of Tony Stark sinking further into the merky deps of the water. He gently wrapped his arms around his torso and pulled him upwards. As they go closer to the surface he pulled him up to the land and dragged him to the side. He looked down at the man he had just rescued, unsure why he had done it, but something felt familiar about the man. He wasn't a target, so he was unsure to why he felt an attraction towards him. He took one last look at the man and walked away, he flexed his hydra arm and felt a sudden wave of guilt and ... love.

He didn't know why this man was having this effect on him, but he felt it best to leave before he caused him anymore harm. He walked away with a pain in his heart, not knowing if he would ever see him again, and he secretly hoped he would.

Tony coughed and sat up. Steve and Nat were by his side, with Nat liming slightly from a recent wound. Steve helped him up and lead him back to the jet.

"what happened Steve? How did I get out of the water?"

" you didn't get out your self?"

"no."

"you don't think it was ..." tony started ...

" it ... cant have been ? could it?"

"well if it wasn't you or Nat ... I don't see who else it could have been ... and that means I owe him my life."

"yeah. its not you fault tony." Steve said almost like he could read him mind, "we'll get him back, and you can both be together again . "

Tony smiled and rested his head back on the seat behind him. Bucky saved him, and now he had to save Bucky from hydra, and he was willing to lose his life if it meant that Bucky could love his, thinking that Bucky would ever feel the same way about him. He was so wrong.

Bucky sat behind an old bridge near the water edge, not being able to forget that man. He sat in wonder for a while and decided to head back to the place he left him, but when he got there, he had gone. He thought at first he could have imagine it, he remembers a lot of things that never happened ... like Steve?

No. His mind plays with him, that's what they tell him. That man never existed, but even if he didn't - Bucky doubted he would ever forget him, and the way he ade him feel.

For the first time ever - he felt love.
