There's this girl. 5'7", caramel skin, thick in all the right places. Most people called me "fun size" because, according to them, they could fold me like a pretzel. My nickname was Waterfall - because baby, I quenched thirsts - but my real name is Valincia.
Let me tell you about my life.
Ten years ago, I met the man I thought was the man of my dreams: Micah. But like most women who've been through a thing or two, I played hard to get. At the time, I was 32 weeks pregnant, emotionally drained, and feeling far from beautiful. I had just left the father of my child, Jerome, and I was trying to rebuild myself from the ground up. Love? Relationships? They weren't even on my radar.
Now don't get me wrong - I loved Jerome once. Hard. But some relationships expire long before people are brave enough to walk away, and ours had run its course.
Micah knew my situation, and unlike most men, he never pressured me. He moved slow. Patient. Consistent. He checked on me every day like it was part of his routine. If I needed something, he was there before I could finish complaining about it. Even with my stubborn attitude and walls sky-high, he never switched up on me.
That was my teddy bear.
And truth be told, I had a soft spot for him too... but I was determined to play my position right and take my time figuring him out.
Then October came.
I gave birth to the most beautiful baby girl I had ever laid eyes on. The moment I saw her, my entire world softened. She had a head full of thick hair, chunky cheeks you couldn't stop kissing, and eyes that could melt the coldest heart. She was perfect.
But happiness doesn't always come without fear.
Not long after she was born, my baby had to be admitted into the hospital. It was the scariest moment of my life. Sitting in that hospital room, exhausted and terrified, I realized her father was nowhere to be found.
And Micah?
Me and him weren't speaking at the time.
Funny how life works though, because the only person who showed up for me during my darkest moment was somebody I never wanted in the first place.
Will.
For over a year, Will had chased me nonstop. Calls, texts, emails - you name it. I ignored every single one. If persistence was a person, it was him. I brushed him off every chance I got.
But the moment I needed somebody...
he dropped everything and came running.
No hesitation.
And that right there opened a door I would later wish had stayed locked.
Because somehow, against all common sense... that man had me weak in the knees.
