Weeks passed before I heard from Ebony again, so when my phone lit up with a message from her asking if she could come over and chill, I was honestly surprised.
Still, I agreed.
At that point, my relationship with Will was hanging on by a thread anyway. Every day felt heavier than the last. The love that once felt exciting had slowly started turning into resentment, arguments, and silence. So truthfully, I welcomed the distraction.
Not long after our conversation ended, I heard a car pull up outside.
And baby...
tell me why Ebony and Will climbed out together laughing and carrying on like they were lifelong best friends.
The second I opened that front door, my stomach dropped.
I stood there with my hand on my hip and a mug so hard it could've cracked glass. My blood was boiling so bad we probably could've fried chicken with it.
Will knew instantly he was caught.
Before I could even say anything, he started explaining himself, reaching for my hands, talking fast like that was supposed to calm me down. But me? I believed in swinging first and asking questions later because at that moment, there was absolutely nothing he could say that would make the situation look better.
Then the truth finally came out.
After the threesome, the two of them had continued messing around behind my back.
The room went silent after that confession.
Will claimed the only reason he kept dealing with her was because Ebony told him she might be pregnant by him. Hearing those words felt like somebody dumped ice water down my spine. I was furious, hurt, embarrassed - all at once.
But the worst part?
Deep down, I blamed myself too.
I was the one who opened the door. I let another woman into my home, my relationship, and my bed. I ignored every warning sign because I thought we were just having fun.
And now look at us.
Instead of screaming, I grabbed my keys and left.
I drove straight to the store, bought a pregnancy test, and came back home needing answers immediately before my mind exploded from overthinking.
When I walked back in, there they were sitting together acting nervous but trying to look calm.
I tossed the test toward Ebony.
"Go take it," I snapped. "And don't play with me because I'm not in the mood today."
The entire house got quiet after that.
Even Will stopped talking. Matter of fact, he wouldn't even look me in the eyes anymore. That's how I knew he understood how serious I was.
We sat in the living room waiting those longest two minutes of my life.
Finally, since neither of them wanted to move, I snatched the test up myself and looked down at it.
"Not pregnant," I yelled.
The relief that washed over the room was instant. Will damn near looked like he could breathe again. But me? I still had questions. I still had anger sitting in my chest waiting to explode.
Before I could even open my mouth again, Will moved toward me trying to soften the situation the only way he knew how - touching me, kissing on me, trying to pull me back into his spell.
And the crazy thing was...
it worked.
As mad as I was, as betrayed as I felt, somehow the chemistry between us still pulled me in every single time. Toxic or not, the connection we had was hard to break away from.
And before I knew it, the lines between anger, love, and lust had blurred all over again.
That night should've been the end of everything.
Instead, it only tangled us together even deeper.
