Eliza knocked on John's door, a nervous smile on her face. The door flung open, John standing there with his eyes drooping of exhaustion.
"John! Are you alright?" she'd rush inside cupping his face in her hands. She'd search the boy's face.
"I'm alright Eliza, just tired. What's up?" he'd gently push her way, rubbing his eyes as he yawned.
"O-oh, I just wanted to tell you something.. but I'll come back later." she'd play with her bracelets on her left arm, embarrassed.
"It's alright, go ahead now." John shut the door behind her, taking a seat on his bed, patting the empty space next to him. Eliza smiled quickly before sitting down softly.
"It's kind of a coincidence. 'Cause I have to tell you something too." John chuckled softly, glancing at her.
"R-really? You can tell me first." Eliza replied, feeling her skin grow hot.
"Well, I kind of have feelings for Lafaytte. He's been hanging out with me a lot lately. His face getting so close to mine. Heh." John's left arm rose from his lap, his hand hiding about behind his neck, his elbow sticking out.
Eliza felt her heart snap like a twig. Her eyes staring down at her lap.
"Anyways, what'd you wanna tell me?"
"Eheh... I forgot." she stood up from the bed, desperate to get out of the room. She'd open the door, closing it soon after she stepped into the roaming hallways.
"Wait, where-" that's all she heard.***
Alexander stared at her with sympathy glowing in his brown eyes.
"I'm sorry Eliza."
"It's, alright." The waitress placed their plates down in front of them, looking like she didn't hear a word of the story.
Soon after the waitress left, he'd speak once more.
"John liked Lafayette?" Alexander scoffed, holding in his laughter. "Hercules and Lafayette would probably be the better couple instead of 'Lafayette and John.' "
"Yeah, they are. I told Lafayette about John, he felt the same so they dated for two days. They argued too much." she giggled, lifting her fork off of the table.
"Hmm, do you still like John now?" He'd wait for an answer hopeful to hear the word 'yes.'
Eliza giggled once more, food stopping her from answering. Although, Alexander saw a handful of blush appear across her cheeks.
As soon as she swallowed her first take of salad, Alexander spoke.
"It's alright if you do." he'd smile.
"Maybe I still do. But, he'll never see me in that way." she'd stick her fork into her salad once more, eating a small tomato that was covered in ranch dressing."I can talk to him for you. Maybe the guys can help too." Eliza blinked at him, finishing her tomato.
"Really?"
"Of course! We're friends."
"Yeah." Eliza smiled, a truthful one. "Friends."***
December 24th, 11:07.
'I called the guys, they said that they'd rather have Eliza tell him how she feels after their meal. At the Schuyler's place. Which John'll come... in three minutes. Apparently, Eliza asked him out cause she wanted to stay away from John, knowing that it wouldn't work out for her. Thank god. I don't wanna be put through that again.' The doorbell rang. Alexander peered up from his journal, shutting it with the pencil inside. He'd place it down on his desk like he always does, checked if his hair was in a nice low pony tail, then made his way towards the front door. He'd turn the doorknob, letting John step inside.
"So, please remind me why I'm here?" John sighed, taking off his jacket and handing it to Alexander.
"Eliza just wanted to invite you to lunch. That's all." He'd hang his coat on the coat rack, the two men hugging each other in greeting.
"Take your boots off if you'd like, or dry them off." John nodded, wiping the bottoms of his shoes against the carpet.
"There's always something else." John sighed, wandering his way towards the table.
Food had already been made, Cheesecake.
"This seems like desert instead of lunch." John called, chuckling as he sat down. Alexander chuckled quietly, waiting in the hall for Eliza to come down.Thankfully, Phillip Schuyler had work today, Angelica went out on a date with Alan Kermit, and Peggy was out with Hercules and Lafayette.
"You can go ahead and sit down Alexander!" he'd hear Eliza's voice shout. He'd shrug, walking over to his chair and placing his hands on the brim.
"Want anything to drink?" he'd ask John.
"I'm alright for now."
"Alright." Alexander sat down, his hands in a fist like shape. Silence filled the air, no one making a muscle.
"Alex, I meant to ask you yesterday." John broke the silence, his fingers playing with his ear.
"Are you dating anyone? Just wondering." his head tilted to meet Alexander's eye.
"No. Why'd you think I would be, after Eliza asked me out?" he'd giggle, answering the question.
"Well, I had to make sure." He'd shrug, smirking as if he was about to laugh.
Alexander's eyes widened. 'Had to make sure? What does he mean by that?'
"Sorry guys, I had to find my dress." his thoughts were interrupted by the voice of Eliza.
"Hey John." she'd smile, a slight blush appearing across her cheeks."Hello." he'd stare at her for a few moments, an unsure face looking away so Eliza wouldn't notice. Alexander watched as Eliza walked past him, her fingers wrapping around a chair. She'd drag it across the floor, stopping by John's side. She'd sit down in the chair, staring at the boy's face.
John blinked, grabbing the edges of his chair and moved closer towards Alexander.
Eliza, noticing glanced at her friend.
"Uh, Alexander. Don't you have to get your clothes out of the wash? And update your journal?" Her teeth gritted as they showed.
Alexander tried to stop her last word, but miserably failed. John observed him.
"A journal?"
"I-I."
"Can I take a look?" John rose from his chair, leaning on the table. Eliza sighed angrily, leaning back in her chair.
"Eliza needs to tell you something, John. I'll show you when you're about to leave." he'd smile at him sympathetically.
"Oh. Alright." he'd sit down, his eyes focused on Eliza. Waiting for her to say something.Alexander slowly got out of his chair, walking around the corner and shortly stopping. He'd peek, interested on what was going to happen.
"What's this thing, you've got to tell me?"
"Oh. Well, I thought I wasn't going to be saying anything this early.." She'd beginning playing with her bracelets.
"Remember that time in college, where I came over to tell you something? You told me you liked Lafayette?" John laughed quietly.
"Still can't believe I dated that fool. Anyway, yeah."
"Well the thing I was going to tell you was..I liked you." her breath shook as she spoke the last three words.
"You did? I had no idea. You should've told me." John sat up in his chair.
Alexander watched, waiting for the words "I do too." reach his ears.
"And I still do.." Eliza added, her smile fading as she saw John's face."I'm afraid I don't feel the same, I think.. I have feelings for someone else."
"Who?" Eliza hissed.
