I slowly opened my eyes, blinking away the blurriness of sleep. My arm was being tickled by some hairy furry object, my reflexes kicked in and I instantly sat up, wide eyed, afraid that someone might've broken in. My PTSD has increasingly worsened since then. But what I saw made my heart soft. It was Dark, as a black kitty, curled up in ball and sleeping beside me.
I giggled softly before rubbing my eyes, calming myself down before getting started with my day. I thought that because this neighborhood I'm living in is horrible and the crime rate is super high, I should move to a better neighborhood with decent apartments who's locks aren't defective.
I began to search on my laptop at my desk and search for better neighborhoods with affordable prices on apartments. I sighed as I rubbed my forehead with my palm. I saw a few good places and decided to jot them down in my journal so I could remember. I yawned my eyes getting a little water and as I wiped my eyes again, I saw a dark figure ominously standing behind me, in the reflection of my laptop screen.
I jumped at least three feet in the air, fear rattling through my nerves. I gasped as I spun around to see a surprised Dark staring at me.
"Dark! You cannot do that after what just happened, okay!?" I freaked and he tried to calm me down as much as he could while massaging my shoulders.
"I'm so sorry, sweets, I didn't realize you were already up!" He explained and I began to calm down a bit. I can't exactly remember when I started feeling comfortable around him, but oddly, I did."I'm okay, Dark. I just got scared for a second." I assured him and he nodded silently, giving me a concerned look.
"Seems you are looking up new places to live?" He observed while glancing at my screen and I nodded in response.
"Yeah~ too much weird shit happens here..." I muttered while slowly glancing at him and he averted his eyes to the floor with shame.
"I'm part of the "weird shit" aren't I?" He groaned sadly and I chuckled softly.
"Yeah. But I got a little used to you, you turned out to not really be a threat and you saved my life so..." I began to speak, but stop in fear of giving him too much leeway. He still is a stranger and I still am very much afraid of him and his whereabouts."Hm. Well, I'm glad to be in your presence, nonetheless." He spoke as he backed up and headed to the kitchen.
"Hungry? You haven't consumed any nutrition in the past day and a half." He asked concerned, I cranked my neck back to peer over at him."I'm not extremely hungry, but I guess you're right, I probably need some nutrition in me." I replied and he nodded in agreement before whipping up something for me to eat.
"Wh- how do you know I need food? How do you even know how to cook??" I asked, truly intrigued.
"I've been among you humans for years, darling. I know more than enough about how your kind operates." He chuckled with a wink. I blushed as I watched him take out a pan from under the sink and place it on the stove."Well... What are you cooking?" I asked and he just shrugged while letting out a smug reply.
"Pancakes."
I just pursed my lips in thought before shrugging it off and turning back to my laptop to search for places.I realized, when looking at my clock, that in about thirty minutes, I will have to leave to go to work. I began to build anxiety from the fact that I have to meet my friend there, if she still even considers me as a friend.
I took a short shower and locked my door before dressing, even though, I know that wouldn't keep Dark out, he had enough sense to know that he shouldn't peep on me when changing. After I was fully dressed in my work uniform, I opened the door back and saw Dark making his way down the hallway with a plate of delicious looking pancakes and bacon for me.
"Wow. Thanks, Dark!" I gratefully responded and he just gave me a soft smirk before setting it down on my desk. I immediately sat down and began devouring the food. It was delicious and sweet, but also I was starving, I just didn't want him to feel like he needed to do this kind of stuff for me, even though I don't really mind it.
Coming back from dozing off into a daydream, I found myself picking at the last remnants of food on my plate that I was feeling too stuffed to eat. Dark saw this and gave me a sideways glance.
"You appear to have something that's really bothering you." He inferred as he made his way over. He sat on the floor next to my chair, crisscrossed, placing a hand on my shoulder.
"Mind if I listen in on your thoughts?" He asked and I slightly panicked.
"Don't you dare read my thoughts, demon." I snapped at him and he raised a brow at me.
"Fine. Tell me what it is that's bothering you then." He said as he dropped his hand from my shoulder to his lap.I rolled my eyes, not really in the mood to talk about shit.
I sighed as I looked into his deep dark eyes.
He is so handsome. What the hell?! My thoughts are going out of control. I must be very traumatized from what happened that night! I cannot be thinking that this demon dark man thing is handsome??!!
I shivered in disgust as I looked away from him and he just furrowed his eyebrows, very confused.
"Sweetheart, when you do things like that, it makes me want to intrusively read your mind." He groaned and I just snickered.
"I'm sorry." I muttered as looked at him again.
"I just- thank you. Thanks for staying last night and watching over me." I finally spoke after a long pause. His eyes softened and a small smile tugged at his lips.
"Anything for you, doll." He replied and I just smiled in return.Maybe the start of a new friendship? Who knows...
