"Hey, how did it go?"
"Nothing has changed."
"I don't believe that. What did she tell you?"
"She told me to try to find a quiet corner if possible, or find a way to be away from people when I'm overwhelmed. She talked about my anxiety and how I get along with other people."
"Well that's not nothing sweetheart."
"Yes mommy."
Mommy was 5'0", with dark chocolate skin, caramel eyes, long braids, and pudgy. She was loud, laughed all the time, disorganized, and very smart.  She works as a manager at Grandpa's diner.  Most of the people that meet her, love her.  She is kind, caring, sassy, sarcastic (which does not bode well for me), and entertaining.
"So, what are you and Grandpa working on today?"
"He is teaching me how to make a burger. The right way. "
"Hahaha, soon enough you're gonna be runnin' the diner."
It is my biggest dream to cook at Grandpa's diner. Food follows a specific series of steps, and as long as you don't mess with the recipe it should come out the same every time.  I also love cooking because the more organized you are, the way you prepare the ingredients, cook the food, store the produce and ingredients, the better things run and function.

"So before you put the burger on the grill sprinkle a pinch of salt on the side that will be touching the pan first.  You will cook it for three minutes on each side for a medium rare burger."
I was doing my best to keep up with Grandpa as he showed me the steps. I got a little caught up trying to make the burger a perfect circle.  Grandpa had to threaten to take the burger away from me.
"I think the burger is all done Grandpa."
"Well lets cut it open and see the results."
The result was not good.  The burger was mostly raw, red, and bloody.
"Eww. . . What did I do wrong? I made the patty the proper thickness, I put the salt on the burger, I cooked it for three minutes on each side. The outside of the burger is properly charred.  If I cooked it any more IT WOULD BE BURNT! I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHAT WENT WRONG!!!!"
I was on the verge of a breakdown. I couldn't figure out what I did wrong. I was hyperventalating, wringing my hands, and pacing.
"What happened what happened what happened where did I go wrong what did I doooo?"
Suddenly my feet were no longer touching the ground, and the grill was not in my line of sight. Instead I was placed in the grass infront of the big apple tree.
"Deep breath Ace. It is okay."
"But, I ruined it."
"So, The first time I made burger it burst into flames."
"It did?"
"Oh yes. There were flames, smoke everywhere, every fire alarm in the place was blaring, and the icing on the cake was the sprinkler system going off dousing everyone and everything in gallons and gallons of water. It was a massive mess."
I laughed thinking of my grandpa getting all wet because he could not cook. It did not seem real that he could not cook.
"Thank you Grandpa that makes me feel better."
After a few minutes he asked if I wanted to try again. Back at the grill he helped me reset everything.
"Your problem last time was that the grill was too hot, cooking the outside to perfection before the inside had time to cook. Also, that means that it was my fault your first burger did not turn out well since I was the one who heated up both the grills. I forgot to turn the temperature down on yours. I am sorry Ace"
"That is okay Granpa. I forgive you."
My second burger turned out much better.
