Chapter 7

After the battle with Verdia, a leader in the Devil King's army the season turned to winter. The figure of Y/n could be seen wandering down the streets of Axel. He had just completed a bandit subjugation.

Y/n: When Verdia attacked, I was way over-leveled. Soon enough, I may be able to take the throne of the Devil King. Then I'll show everyone what a real villain looks like.

He drags himself into the guild where he turns in his quest to Luna, only receiving 10,000 eris despite the original award being 100,000 due to a large portion of the money they earn from quests being taken out to go towards their debt. He looked at the amount he received in disappointment but didn't outwardly complain.

Y/n: This'll get annoying.

He then notices Aqua and Kazuma sitting at one of the tables. He was about to make his way over to them when he could tell Luna was reaching out to him so he stopped his reflection from activating. He soon felt a hand tug on the sleeve of his shirt and looked back at Luna. She was holding out a hand with ten thousand eris in it.

Luna: Consider this our little secret, okay? For all of your hard work.

He accepts the money and she pulls him closer and kisses his cheek, forcing a small blush to form on his usually scowling face. He coughs a few times to compose himself.

Y/n: Thanks.

She giggles and waves him off. He quickly composes himself and gets to their table, sitting next to Aqua.

Aqua: Oh, hey. Where have you been?

Y/n: Working, unlike you four.

Kazuma slams his hands on the table, startling Aqua and making Y/n look over to him.

Kazuma: I want money!

Aqua: Huh? Everyone wants that, obviously! Anyway, you're entirely too unresourceful. You make a goddess like myself sleep in a stable every single night! Aren't you ashamed of yourself? If you understand that, then give me more luxury. Spoil me more!

Kazuma: Do you not get why I want more money?

Aqua: Huh?

Kazuma: Debt! Thanks to the debt you've racked up, most of the reward money we earn from every quest we do is deducted to repay those debts! Just this morning... Just this morning when I awoke in the straw of the stable, my eyelashes were frozen solid! If I keep sleeping in that stable, I'm going to freeze to death for sure!

Aqua: I can't help it! The city may have perished in that battle with Verdia if not for my astounding efforts! You should exalt me more! All of you should praise me! Praise me and spoil me rotten!

Kazuma: You attention whore!

Y/n: If your feats were that impressive, then the rewards, accolades, and debt are all yours. Pay your debt by yourself. I'm tired of my alcohol money going towards our debt.

His words caused her to tense up. Both Kazuma and Y/n got up from their seats and began to walk away when a crying Aqua latched onto Y/n and hugged around its waste since he hasn't put his reflection back up yet.

Aqua: Wait! I'm sorry! I apologize for getting carried away, so don't abandon me!

The last two party members approached the original trio.

Darkness: Why all the fuss so early in the morning?

Megumin: Do we have some nice job lined up?

Kazuma: No, we haven't started looking for work yet. Given the situation and all...

Everyone looked towards the center of the filled guildhall where all of the adventurers were drinking and laughing.
