Traffic. The one bad thing about living in California. If you want to go somewhere on time, leave like an hour earlier before your scheduled time to wherever you're going. The kids ran out of songs to sing and now resorted to playing I Spy. Children are so innocent to this harsh world. They don't know what the struggles their parents and family went through till it's too late. As parents we're supposed to make life seem like it's a Disney story and nothing is going to go wrong. If they only knew.
I listened to them as Ivy tried looking for the yellow thing Issac spotted with his eyes. She sighed and gave up. "Mommy's shirt", said Isaac. I looked down at myself and laughed quietly. This whole time he was talking about my shirt. Poor Ivy who was struggling to figure out what he meant. I looked over at Xavier who was focusing on the road. His jaw clenched as someone cut in front of us. His grip on the steering wheel increased and his muscles were more visible.
"Relax, it's just one rushed driver", I reassured him because he has one of the worst tempers and a really awful road rage. He sighed. "Why do they got to be cutting me off like that", he said justifying his anger. "Who said Los Angelers are the nicest drivers?", I said. He shook his head and smiled a little.
We eventually got to Disney without any road rage surprisingly. I got Issac out of the car while Xavier got Ivy out. I held Issac's hand as we walked toward ticket stands. I took my wallet out I got my card out to pay. An arm blocked my view. I looked up and seen a tattoo in the arm. A small heart. Xaviers arm. He payed for the tickets.
He still had the tattoo we got shortly after we got married. We wanted something that we can mark our "territories". I looked down at my arm. I never removed it. It had so many memories attached to it. The good memories of our relationship. I looked down at Isaac. "Let's go play,'' I told him as I tried to distract myself from the tattoo.
The kids got extremely excited and kept yelling out places they wanted to visit and the games they wanted to play. "Relax, we'll get to them all", Xavier reassured them as he picked up Ivy. I gave him a look that it wasn't going to happen. He gave me a look to stay quiet. Well then he'll have to deal with them when they start crying about not being able to ride all the rides.
We walked around the crowded park and got the kids on rides. I leaned against the railing as I watched the kids as they were on a ride. Many of these games don't allow people of certain heights so as parents we have to sit back and relax. Xavier ended up standing next to me. I could feel his stare on me as I watched the twins. "Staring is rude,'' I said without giving him any eye contact.
"You didn't mind back then so why is it a problem now?," he said with an amused tone. "Because we are in public and I don't want headlines with my name on it. I already see people taking pictures," I said mimicking his tone. He laughed. "I don't know why you are mimicking my tone when it doesn't even match the words that are coming out of your mouth." This man. I swear he acts like a reading teacher.
I rolled my eyes and ignored him. Always acting like he's smart. Yes you might have helped me on my essay many years ago but it doesn't mean you're still smart now. He used that against me when we were arguing about something stupid and pointless. Mr. knowitall. Know it all my ass.
The kids got off the ride and ran back to us. "That was so much fun!", exclaimed Ivy. "Wow baby let's see if the other ride is funner than that,'' I said as I picked her up. I walked away with her and Xavier followed me. We rode many games and it was time to eat lunch. The kids were in the mood for burgers so we found a nice area and Xavier went to order the food.
I looked around at the people as they walked. Teenagers were there with their friends. Parents chasing their kids who are running around and away from them. Babies babbling and looking at the colors of the lights and entertainment. It was a fun relaxing atmosphere.
I missed this type of atmosphere. Where everything felt complete and life has endless possibilities. Xavier placed the tray down which broke me away from my thoughts. I took out the hand sanitizer and gave some to everyone because the kids already started touching everywhere even though I washed their hands like 5 minutes ago.
For once they peacefully ate without arguing with each other.
Xaviers POV:
I sipped on my sofa as I watched her clean Ivy's hands. She is a good mother who cares for her children and puts them before herself. My mother focused more on my father and my older siblings. I'm the youngest out of 4. One older sister and 2 older brothers. Let me tell you one thing, older siblings were hell especially when your parents focused more on themselves and work. I had to learn to defend myself and teach my self stuff my parents were required to teach me.
Ashlynn changed it all. I felt loved for once. I was able to find someone to show my love to and to show how much I cared for someone.
I need to get to the bottom of this situation and redeem myself to her.
