"Where are we going?" Amora asked as her legs swung. She sat on the vanity chair while I finished braiding the left side of her hair. Her right side had already been completed earlier while she watched cartoons on the television in my bedroom.

I stopped humming when she asked the question and reached to grabbed the blue scrungie that matched the color of her overalls she wanted to wear today. "We are going to the doctor," I admitted as I tied off the end of her pigtail. "Ta da," I sang trying to change the subject. I was afraid of her reaction because kids didn't usually jump for joy when it was time to go to the doctors. Nonetheless, it was something that all kids needed to do whether they liked it or not. I spun her around in the chair so she could see in the mirror.

Amora smiled so big that I thought her face might begin to hurt. "It's pretty," she said admiring my handiwork in the mirror. A knock on the door drew away our attention of her hair.

"I wonder who that could be." I took Amora to the front room and turned on her cartoons. "Watch this sweetie." I went and peeked through the peephole wondering who could be here this early in the morning.

To no surprise, Leo stood on the other side of the door with his hands shoved deeply in his pockets. Seeing him warmed my heart. The grin on my face only gave it away even more as I opened the door. Once face to face, he only returned the facial expression. "Amora, look who it is," I announced not taking my eyes off him. Honestly, I could go for a quickie right now, but I knew it couldn't happen right now. It was just seeing him put me in the mood.

"Leo!" Amora screamed. I could hear her feet scrambled across the floor.

"Hey, kiddo," Leo chuckled bending down to catch her just as she ran into his arms. He picked her and walked into the apartment. I closed the door and followed him into the living room where we all sat on the couch where Amora sat earlier.

"What brings you here so early in the morning? Not that I'm not happy to see you." I wasn't lying when I asked. I was just curious.

"Well, Tai asked me to remind you of the doctor's appointment," Leo answered.

I bit my lip quickly regretting I asked because the subject was once again brought up. "I don't want to go to the doctor's though," Amora pouted as she fell back against the couch and crossed her arms. Her lip poked out to match.

"How about this," Leo began. He was quick on his feet. I wondered if he could read the facial expression on face. "I'll go with you. That way you have both Louise and I by your side. Then, afterwards, we all can go out for ice cream. My treat."

This got Amora's attention as she set up and her frown quickly was turned upside down. "Deal," she replied.

In the doctor's office, Amora sat on the medical table while Leo and I stood against the window so we were next to her as promise. We waited on the doctor to come back while Amora colored in her coloring book. I figured it would be a calming remedy for her to take her mind off things. "Just imagine. We could be a real family. You. Me. Amora," Leo whispered in my ear.

My cheeks felt like they flushed, but I hoped that it didn't show. "That actually sounds wonderful," I admitted. I tried not to get attached to the idea though because there was still a chance that Amora's mother could get her back. It was better if I loved her from a distance.
