Niall’s POV

“So we’re lost?” Shawn asked, looking really worried.

I nodded.

“Was this your plan? Get us lost in the woods?” Shawn asked, turning his fear into anger.

“No, I didn’t mean to get us lost,” I said. “We can get out, just follow me.”

I began to retrace our steps until I got to a four way.

“Which way do we go?” Shawn asked.

“Uh, can you get your phone out again and check if you have any service here?” I asked to distract him while I looked around at our surroundings.

I heard Shawn sigh as I continued to see if anything looked familiar.

“Yes!” I heard Shawn cheer.

“What?” I asked, turning to face him.

“I have service,” Shawn said. “I only have one bar right now, but maybe it’ll get stronger if we keep walking.”

“Alright, let’s keep walking then,” I said, walking to my right.

Shawn followed behind, holding his phone as if he were Rafiki holding Simba into the air.

I chuckled at the comparison.

“What are you laughing at?” Shawn asked.

“You look like Rafiki,” I said.

“Who?” Shawn asked, lowering his phone.

“The monkey that held up Simba in the Lion King,” I said, hoping Shawn would catch on.

“So we’re lost right now and you’re comparing me to a monkey now?” Shawn asked.

I rolled my eyes. “Just trying to find the light in this situation.”

“Sorry,” I heard Shawn mumble before I started walking again.

We walked for a good twenty minutes before I heard Shawn start cheering.

“What is it?” I asked.

“I have full bars!” Shawn said, a light appearing in his eyes.

“Go to the map before you lose them,” I said, looking over Shawn’s shoulder as he did what I said.

Shawn opened the map and zoomed out so we could see where we were. Turned out we were just going in circles. The exit wasn’t even five minutes away from where we were standing.

“Know these trails really well, huh?” Shawn asked, using his map to lead us off of the trail.

I nervously laughed as I rubbed the back of my neck.

Shawn found our way off the trail and when we got off, the sun was just about to set.

“Can we watch the sunset?” I asked.

“I don’t see why not,” Shawn said. “It would get my mind off being “lost” for a good half an hour or so.”

“Sorry,” I said. “I guess it’s been a while since I’ve been down those trails.”

“It’s fine,” Shawn said. “Besides me freaking out and that we had no signal for a good ten minutes, I liked it back there.”

“Really?” I asked.

Shawn nodded. “It felt nice to be in contact with nature after being cooped up in a building all day.”

“We weren’t inside all day,” I said.

“Yeah,” Shawn said. “We spent most of it outside being “lost” down trails you quote “knew so well”.”

“Ha ha,” I said sarcastically.

Shawn smiled at me before the setting sun caught both my and Shawn’s attention.
