(Part 36)

Shawn's POV

It's almost been a year since the car crash now and I'm still scared to get into cars. But, I obviously still do because I can't just walk everywhere. And, speaking of cars, Niall and I are on our way to a fancy restaurant for a "special surprise". Whatever that means.

"Niall," I said, turning to face him. "Can you please tell me why we had to get dressed up and go somewhere today?"

"Because I have a surprise for you," Niall said, looking at me from the corner of his eye.

"Hey, eyes on the road," I said.

"But you're so distractingly handsome," Niall said.

"Yeah right," I said, rolling my eyes.

"But you are," Niall said. "And I can tell you all about it tonight."

"I would gladly let you," I said. "But first I want to know what this surprise is."

"I just can't keep things from you, can I?" Niall asked, pulling up to a restaurant.

"Nope," I said.

"Well, we're here," Niall said, shutting the car off.

"Yup, we're here," I repeated.

"Relax, Shawn," Niall said, placing a hand on my thigh.

"Yeah, like that makes it any easier," I said, looking down at his hand.

Niall winked at me before he got out of the car.

I rolled my eyes and followed after him.

We walked into the restaurant and after Niall told the person that he had a reservation for Horan, they led us to a round table with a whole bunch of people. Harry and Louis sat side by side with Zayn and Liam to their left. And Cameron, his girlfriend, and Ethan sat on Harry and Louis' right which still left two open seats. I sat down next and Niall sat next to me.

"So, how have you guys been doing?" Liam asked. "I feel like I haven't seen you two in forever."

"We've been good," Niall said.

"Did you tell him about the surprise?" Cameron asked.

"Yeah, he did and I seriously want to know what it is," I said. "I can't handle not knowing what things are."

"It's a good surprise, trust me," Harry smiled.

"Wait, he let all of you in on it?" I asked, looking around the table.

Everyone either nodded or said a simple "yes".

"Niall," I said, dragging his name out. "Why can't I know?"

"Because that would ruin the surprise," Niall said as a waitress walked over to our table.

"Hello, what can I get you all for drinks?" the waitress asked, eyeballing Louis.

Harry held Louis close as everyone ordered their drinks. When the waitress left, she sent a wink Louis' way which only made Harry angrier.

"I don't like that waitress," Harry mumbled.

After that, we all talked about random things and the surprise came up a few times but nobody said what it was. By the time we had finished eating and were getting ready to leave, it was driving me insane.

"Niall, what is the surprise?" I asked.

"You'll find out soon," Niall said. "But, I've got to take you somewhere to show you the surprise."

"Wait, you have to show it to me?" I asked.

Niall nodded as we all walked out to our corresponding cars. When everyone was in their cars, Niall drove out of the parking lot with Cameron, his girlfriend, and Ethan following him, Liam and Zayn following them, and Harry and Louis taking the rear.

"Where are we going?" I asked.

"To the surprise," Niall answered.

"Why is everyone else following?" I asked.

"You'll see," Niall said as he stopped at a red light.

The rest of the drive was a quiet one until we pulled up at a beach. I looked around, wondering what the heck we were doing here.

"Alright, we're here," Niall said.

"Why?" I asked. "It's too late to go swimming and we aren't even dressed for it."

"We aren't here to go swimming," Niall said. "Now, come on."

Niall and I got out of the car with everyone following after. We all started walking down the beach talking and joking until something caught my eye. My attention was drawn towards it and I found myself no longer in the conversation.

"So, you found my surprise," Niall said, seeing that I wasn't listening to the conversation anymore.

"That's it, up there?" I asked, pointing just ahead of us.

"Yeah, let's go," Niall said.

We all walked until I saw it. There were candles leading up to a tree that had blue ribbons tied to the branches. As I continued to stare, I didn't realize that Niall had left my side and walked up to the tree until I saw him standing there. I walked up to him, noticing that the group stayed behind, marveling at the sight. When I was about a foot away from Niall, he dropped to one knee. I put my hands up to my mouth as Niall pulled a box out of his pocket.

"Shawn," he said. "I have known from the first day we met that you were the one. I was never one to believe in soulmates or true love but the moment I saw you and we started hanging out, I didn't know what to think. We have gone through so much together. From you learning about your COPD. To getting into a car crash together." I winced at the thought. "Shawn, I have always loved you and always will love you. So, will you be my forever and always, my husband, and one and only? Will you marry me?"

"Yes!" I squealed. "A thousand times yes!"

Niall stood up and placed the ring on my finger before we met in a loving kiss.

"I love you so much," I whispered, pulling Niall into a hug after our kiss.

"I love you too," Niall whispered, hugging me back.

And, done! I can't believe that this book is already done. It feels like just yesterday I started writing this and now, it's completed. I have fallen in love with this book and hope you all have enjoyed reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it because I sure enjoyed it.
