Set It Off

After our morning classes we were given a lunch break and delicious food thanks to the cooking hero Lunch Rush. I spent time going over some basic writing with Kirishima and Kaminari, both of the boys showing a ton of patience and pride in the little bit I was able to pick up. We all eat our food heartily and pump one another up for the class we had been looking forward to, Hero Basic training, taught by none other but Toshinori-sama.

The door opens and he stride in wearing his silver age costume, a bright grin present on his heroic looking face. "I am here! Walking through the door like a hero!" He exclaims dramatically, I giggle and roll my eyes, Toshinori-sama is always so dramatic when in his muscle form. The class looks at him and whispers in awe, so excited to have the #1 pro hero teaching them the basics of being a hero. Toshinori-sama begins to explain the exercise today, we would all be paired up and each pair would either be villains or heroes, the villains guarding a bomb in a building, the hero either have to capture both the villains or the weapon to complete the exercise.

After this explanation, he presses a button on a remote, causing shelves with numbered briefcases to extend from the wall. I grab my number off the rack and gasp in surprise as my hero costume design is revealed. "The clothes make the hero, get changed and I will see you at training grounds beta." He walks out, undoubtedly going to prepare the spaces for our exercise while we all head to the locker rooms to change into our new outfits.

I look over my costume in depth, making sure the carbon fiber reinforced mesh shirt and leggings were in good repair, my loose crop top full of hidden pockets, loose skater skirt with built in shorts having reinforced holsters for my wands and loops for my utility belt. I admire the needle work for a moment before putting all the items on, tracing the pentacle on my chest before putting on my wide brimmed felt hat and comfortable combat boots. I put on my utility belt and stow my other equipment in the various hidden pockets, delighted at the loose bell sleeves flutter with my movements.

By the time I was finished dressing the other girls were admiring themselves in the large full body mirror, we nod at one another and walk out, meeting the boys and entering the training grounds in a large dramatic group. I blush deeply when I spied Kirishima, his fully exposed chest and arms make him look undoubtedly handsome and manly. I press my cold hand to my cheeks and force myself to calm down, Kirishima-kun is one of my friends, I shouldn't be thinking about him like that… I tell myself and then my focus back onto the task at hand.

I watch as All-Might draws the first group, Midoriya and Ochaco as the heros facing against Bakugou and Iida, who are playing the villains. The rest of us proceeding to the observation room to watch the match unfold. I was at the edge of my seat watching Midoriya-kun and Bakugou fight, my clenched fists and jaw causing my bones and muscles to ache. Toshinori-sama needed to stop the fight, but I knew why he wouldn't, though it would be a grave lesson to both boys. I sigh and turn my attention to Iida and Ochaco-chan, silently cheering as she almost gets the best of him and touch the bomb. I knew Midoriya-kun had a plan, he always has a plan, I had own been acquainted with him for a few days but, at that time he had already shown me how analytical and strategic his mind really was.

I sigh in relief when the Hero team won and Midoriya was taken to the nurses office right away. We talked over what happened with the battle, critiquing both sides in some of Bakugou's reckless moves that compromised the integrity of the stronghold he was supposed to protect. I look over at the blonde boy and feel immense empathy towards him, the boy in the throes of a full blown panic attack. His determination and arrogant peacock behavior must be a shield to mask his full emotions and distract people from his weaknesses, and so far it has worked in fooling All-Might and the whole class.

My group was called next to be villains, my teammate Mashirao and I are up against Todoroki and his teammate Mezo. I take a deep breath and take position, deciding to do some information gathering as the heroes entered our building. I hardly have time to react before my feet and the entire building are frozen in ice, I curse and begin working on freeing my free when I see the ominous Todoroki approach and touch the core.

"Feel free to release yourself, if you don't want any skin on the bottom of your feet." His cold voice echoes through the room, All-Might declaring his team the winners, the white and red haired boy quickly melts the ice, turning it into a steam before he exits.

"Well that was quick." I comment with a huff, Mashirao nodding in shock as we exit and head off the observation area. Toshinori-sama complimented us, and the hero team, going over how things could've gone differently before sending off the next team. This continues through the afternoon, match after match fought and critiqued in a way that we all could take something away and better ourselves.

We are dismissed to get cleaned up and meet back at the classroom, us girls getting undressed quickly and neatly stowing our gear in their cases before arriving at the class, watching some of the boys fumble with their gear. I smile and walk over to Kirishima-kun, giggling as I helped him neatly stow his gear in the briefcase.

"Having problems?" I tease him as we talk, causing him to grin and chuckle. He stands up and puts the briefcase away before returning back to our desks.

"Maybe, but thanks to you the issue has been resolved." He chuckled and sinks as we both take our seats and pay attention to the next teacher. Midoriya-kun comes back in the late afternoon, shortly after Bakugou had left due to how grumpy he was after the fight. We wait patiently, worried for our classmate as the minutes tick by. He soon returns and our classes continue a bit longer before we were dismissed for the day, Ochaco-chan, Midoriya-kun, Iida-kun, and I all walk to the metro station together, talking over the events of the day and our observations. The train ride and walk home was a quiet one, the apartment once again vacant due to my aunt and uncle's hectic schedules and unpredictable jobs. I see a note left on the counter and smile as I read my Aunt's familiar handwriting.

"Mera, your uncle and I both have late shifts tonight, there have been multiple gangs of villains attacking all across the city. We love you and will let you know when we are on our way home. P.S. I left you some money to order in some food." I hum and once again connect my phone to the bluetooth speaker, deciding on playing some Celtic music tonight as I worked on homework and looked at places nearby that deliver to my address. I settle on some fried chicken and work on some of my assignments. My food gets delivered quickly and my night goes smoothly, my music calming my nerves from the day and causing me to reminisce. I head into bed after everything is done and I quickly fall asleep and dream my normal, terror filled dreams. Little did I know but tonight would be my last peaceful night for a while.
