"You are so beautiful." Grayson says as he caresses my arm with his soft fingers.

We are laying on our sides, facing each other. A blanket covering our naked bodies.

"You're cute." I say with a tired smile.

"When you going home?" He asks.

"Wow, you want me gone already?" I joke. "I don't know. I might have to leave soon. It's getting late." I add.

Ding....ding-ding..Ding-

My phone begins to explode with texts in the other room.

"Hold on." I quickly get out of the bed and put on my underwear and shirt.

I speed walk over to my phone and my stomach drops when I see the name on my screen.

My mom!

"Shit!" I yell.

"What?" Grayson walks out in his boxers.

"My mom!" I panic as I read her texts.

Mom: where are you??

Mom: I just called Hanna's mom and she said you aren't there

Mom: you better answer me young lady!

Mom: Answer my calls!!

Mom: I'm tracking your iPhone and I'm coming to get you right now! You are in SO much trouble

"I'm DEAD MEAT!" I yell as I run to the door.

"Don't forget your pants!" Grayson yells.

"FUCK." I run back to Graysons room and within 5 seconds, I am out the door with my pants on.

"I'll see yo-" The sound of Grayson's apartment door shutting cuts off his sentence.

I run as fast as I can out of the apartment building. Once I make it outside, I see my mom's car pull up next to the curb.

Oh no.

The passenger window slowly rolls down. My mom won't even look at me.

"Get in. Now." Is all she says.

I slowly walk over to the car and notice my little sister sleeping in her car seat in the backseat.

I open the car door and sit in the passenger seat, not daring to look at my mom.

She says nothing, starts the car, and begins to drive.

We sit in silence for a long time, mainly because we don't want to wake Kenzie. Until I try to talk to my mom.

"Mom-"

"No."

"Please just listen-"

"I said no. I don't want to hear it."

"You never want to listen to me.." I mumble.

"Excuse me? Who do you think you're talking to??" Her voice raises a little bit.

"You think everything is about you. You don't think I should have a boyfriend all because your husband left you."

My mom yanks the steering wheel and turns the car to the side of the road. I'm surprised it didn't wake up Kenzie.

"Out of the car." My mom tells me as she steps out of the car and walks over to my side. I step out and stand in front of her.

"You really think I am taking my sadness out on you? Huh?? You listen to me young lady, I am only trying to protect you!" My mom argues.

"That's what you always say! You are just trying to protect me! If you were so protective, you would have at least TRIED to make dad stay!! YOU NEVER PUT ANY EFFORT INTO ANYTHING EXCEPT MAKING MY LIFE HORRIBLE!" I yell.

Slap!

My head is thrown to the side and my cheek begins to burn and sting. I place my hand on the side of my face and look up at my mom in tears.

"Get back in the car." She says in a choked up voice. She walks away and gets in the car.

I slowly walk to the car and get inside, still holding my cheek.

My mom begins to drive without putting her seatbelt on. She zooms down the road, clearly angry.

The sky is dark and all we can see are the street lights lit up in the sides of the road. The car ride is silent and Kenzie is still in her deep sleep.

She's always been a deep sleeper. It's something I've always envied about her. I would always wake up in the middle of the night to my mom and dad fighting. I always wished I could sleep through it.

I wish I could have slept through the night my dad left. But I heard everything. I heard him pack his bags, yell, walk out, and shut the front door. I heard my mom crying.

And Kenzie heard nothing. She was asleep.

We start to approach a dark intersection. I rest my head against my window and sigh.

I'm about to shut my eyes, but a set of bright headlights appeared in front of our car!

"MOM, WATCH OUT-"

And everything went dark.
