In all honesty, it wasn’t so bad. A bartender delivered a tray with drinks on it, leaving a pitcher with more on the table. The guys kept running about—especially Niall—and they all seemed to have fun. Mostly we weren’t bothered, but a few people recognized the group and dared to go up and get an autograph.

Even I had the great pleasure of signing some guy’s biceps. It was bizarre, but after seeing each of the guys signing everything from arms, stomachs and necks to breasts, thighs and foreheads—I wasn’t that picky.

Whenever I looked out at the crowd of people around us, I was baffled at how much I didn’t belong. Girls were tossing their hair around while grinding against everything. Boys, poles, other girls, random strangers. There was a lot of grinding going on in general.

Despite that, the mood was contagious. My leg kept tripping to the music, and I listened to the attempted conversations around me.

“Are you having fun?” Harry asked me.

I nodded, unsure if I was telling the truth. I felt like I had fun. Looking up, I realized someone was staring at me. With a smile, I recognized Jamie, who waved and nodded a greeting. He raised his own glass and made an air-toast to me.

Someone called Harry’s name and he had to walk out into the crowd. Alone in the VIP booth, I felt awkward.

Emptying my glass, I poured a new one. Where were the other guys? I looked around, spotting Niall’s blonde hair in the middle of two girls, busting some moves that were far from PG-rated.

My eyes fell on Jamie again who was talking to a short little man. He turned away from the guy, shaking his head and walked away. My eyes followed him, wondering if he was alright. He had looked pretty upset.

Without thinking, I placed my drink on the table and skidded down the stairs. I maneuvered through the crowd, feeling limbs all around me, until I finally reached Jamie.

“Is everything alright?” I asked and poked him on the shoulder.

He jerked around, blinking as if to clarify that I was standing in front of him. “What?”

“That guy from before?” I yelled. “You look upset.”

He shook his head, leaning closer. “That was nothing. Just an old business partner who screwed me over once. Nothing to worry about.” He smiled.

I looked at him. Without the blazer to his jacket, he looked younger and carefree. It occurred to me that I didn’t really know much about Jamie at all. He just seemed to be around whenever, and always dressed in a suit.

“What are you thinking about?” he asked.

I shrugged. “Just realizing that I don’t know anything about you. Yet, you make me feel strangely calm.”

He smiled at that. “I could say the same about you.”

Snorting, I swatted at his arm. “Nonsense. I’m an open book.”

He laughed. “I don’t know. I think there’s more to you than what meets the eyes.”

Speechless, I laughed nervously and looked around. He was right, of course, but there was no way he could know that. Near the entrance, I saw Diana and David hanging around, and with a grin, I nodded to them.

“I have to go over and talk to my friend for a second,” I said. “Sorry.”

Jamie shrugged. “It’s okay. I think I’m going to head back to the hotel—it’s been a long day.” With one of his pleasant smiles, he chugged the rest of his drink, placing the glass on a table nearby. “It was good seeing you, though. And I hope you have a lovely evening.”

I waved goodbye to him and made my way over to Diana. Sneaking up from behind, I covered her eyes. “Guess who?” I said near her ears.

“Is it…. Zayn Malik?” she said.

Releasing her, I turned her around with an open mouth. “How rude.”

“Just messing with you, love,” she said with a wink. “I knew it was you.”

“Sure you did…” I rolled my eyes.

“Where’s Harry?” she asked. “I didn’t think he’d leave you out of his sight.”

Shrugging, I gestured around. “He had to do something. He’s probably back now, though.” I took her hand. “Come with me. If he’s not back, you can keep me company.”

I led her to the VIP section, noticing David following us. That was cool, though. Somehow, I could imagine sparks between Diana and David.

Our sofa group was still empty, and I quickly dove for my earlier abandoned drink. It was hot in here, and I wasn’t exactly sure how long I could take it.

“So…” Diana said as she poured herself a drink. “Do you think you’ll dance with Harry tonight?”

I shrugged. “I can’t really dance.”

“What?” She widened her eyes. “It’s easy to dance.” She took my drink and rose, pulling me to my legs. “See here.”

I wasn’t sure what was happening, but she placed her hands on my hips, gently guiding my hips in a rocking motion. There wasn’t a lot of space up here, and I kept glancing at the table to see if we’d accidentally tilted something.

“Come on,” Diana said. “Relax… Listen to the beat.”

Finally, I gave in and wrapped my arms around her neck. I’d never actually danced with a girl before, but it didn’t seem much different than a gentle swaying with Harry.

“Wow…” a voice said. “That’s hot.”

Turning around, I saw Niall run up the stairs, taking a seat next to David. My face felt like it was burning, and I quickly let go of Diana and sat down.

Returning to my drink seemed so easy, and I loved it. Somehow, the sweetness of the fruity drink seemed lesser, but I was sure it stemmed from my embarrassed state of mind.

When Harry finally returned, I’d downed most of the drink. He looked at me from the floor with a smile.

“Do you want to dance?” he asked and reached up a hand.

Diana nodded eagerly. “She does. She does.” Nudging me, she sent me a stern look. I bit my lip briefly before downing the rest of my drink.

“Okay,” I said and placed my empty glass back on the table. “Let’s get our groove on.”
