A/N: Please comment as you read. It would mean a lot to me.
I heard a loud noise, and something rambled to the ground. Everything from that point happened in a blur. Guards ran in and assessed the situation. Then I felt myself being torn away from Jamie’s hold, the jerk hurting my arm slightly. Two men dressed in black apprehended Jamie and made him unable to move.
I didn’t know what to do, and I simply stood with a frown on my face. It wasn’t until I could feel a pair of hands on my shoulders that I moved. I jerked around to see Harry looking at me with worry. He was panting heavily.
“Are you okay?” he asked. “What happened?” He looked behind me. “Get him out of here. Jesus, what kind of security is this?”
Harry wrapped his hands around me. “God, Cami. I’m so sorry. The exit was closed off, and I think Jamie must have sealed the door when he entered. I had to run around the stage to find another entrance.”
I buried my head in his shirt, shivering from the fear. “I want to go home,” I muttered.
“Of course,” he said, stroking my back gently. I pulled back, smiling at him.
“Mr. Styles,” a guard said as he approached us. “We’ve confirmed that it’s not possible to lead you out to the car. Someone broke through the fence, and the parking lot is now filled with people. We’ll need to escort you to another location, where the car will take you back to your hotel.”
“How long will it take to get the car ready?” Harry asked. “We’re in a hurry.”
“It will be ready once we reach the exit.” The guard paused as he listened to something in his earpiece. “We’ll need to go to the other side of the stadium, though.”
Harry looked at me with worry in his eyes. “How long will that take?” he asked the guard.
“If we move quickly, we’ll get there in fifteen minutes tops.”
“Let’s go then,” I said and took Harry’s hand in mine.
Walking through the stadium was relatively easy. There were thick concrete walls all around me, sheltering me from both sight and sound of the thunder. I didn’t know how bad it was going to get, and I didn’t want to go outside to find out either. I just needed to keep my shit together until I came home to my bags.
“Where did you go?” I asked Harry. It was a feeble attempt to keep my mind occupied.
“I wanted to ask Zayn to get in touch with whoever is at the hotel so they could come with your medicine, but he couldn’t get in contact with anyone. I’m really sorry I left you alone.”
I squeezed his hand lightly. “It’s okay,”
“What happened with that guy anyway?”
I thought back to the creepy love declaration and the crazy look Jamie’s eyes. He had been so sure that someone was out to hurt me. Of course, he was also insane, but it still made me shiver. “He declared his love, and then tried to convince me to go with him. He said someone wanted to hurt me.”
Harry stopped and looked at me. “Do you believe him?”
“I am sure he believed it, but he was talking crazy, Harry.”
“Good.” He kissed my lips quickly and met my eyes. “I won’t let anyone hurt you.”
His words made me smile, and I had a pleasant churn in my stomach. I believed Harry—he’d protect me.
“Mr. Styles,” the guard said. “We have to continue.”
“Right,” Harry said. “Sorry about that.”
We walked along the concrete halls again, rushing by several small drinking fountains and banners of various teams who had played here. I tried to focus on each one, but it did little to help. I could hear the footsteps of the guards behind us. My breathing was shallow, but I did my best to ignore it. All I needed was to go outside, go to the car, and then I’d be in safety. The medication would work in no time.
“Do you know where your medication is?” Harry asked.
I appreciated that he was trying to keep me calm, as well. I nodded. “It’s in my purse. I don’t generally go without it, but the weather have just been so nice, you know? I completely forgot to check the reports.”
“Me too,” he said. “I should have thought to check, as well.”
Part of me wanted to say it wasn’t his responsibility, but one glance at him told me that it wouldn’t do anything to remind him of that. It would be redundant. So I kept quiet.
Instead, I kept looking at him. His jaw was tensed, and his brows were furrowed together.
“What are you thinking about?” I asked.
He shot me a quick glance. “Debating whether I should have punch that bastard instead of letting the guards escort him away.”
“You mean Jamie?”
Harry nodded. “I can’t believe the audacity of some people.”
“I think it’s best not to overthink it. We’ll be going home tomorrow, and then he’ll be out of our life. If he comes near me again, I’ll make sure to get a restraining order.”
“You should get a restraining order now,” he muttered.
I didn’t reply. I hadn’t told Harry that Jamie had followed me here, and I didn’t think he’d take it that lightly. But I couldn’t exactly get a restraining order against him—Ludmilla would have to do that. If I went to the police posing as my sister, I’d be committing a felony. I couldn’t lie to the law—I simply had to call Ludmilla and make her take action.
“How far away are we?” I asked. It felt as if we’d been walking for hours already, when in reality it probably had just been a few minutes.
“Right up ahead, and to the left,” the guard replied from behind me.
“Awesome…” I sped up, wanting to get to the car as soon as possible. When we turned the corner, I could see the exit sign above a set of double doors. I let out a relieved sigh.
So far, so good.
The guard ran past me and opened the door. He called us out a few seconds later.
We were standing in the parking lot, but there was no car in sight.
“Where’s the car?” Harry asked. “You said it’d be here when we arrived.”
The guard looked confused and held a hand to his earpiece. Speaking quietly, he turned the back to us. I wanted to listen in, but a loud boom followed by a flash of light across the sky made me unable to move.
