I had almost finished my wine when Lewis returned from out back. He looked distracted but came to sit beside me.

"Hello again."

"Hi." I tried to assess my feelings, was I worried about him? I had no reason to be and yet I had been very aware of his absence and now I was hyper-aware of him. I didn't even have to look at him to know he was leaning toward me.  I could feel his movements. It was my turn to down the contents of my drink.

"I have to go." He sounded reluctant. I nodded in understanding.

"I hope nothing's wrong?" I knew it was rude not to face him but those mesmerising eyes of his had a tendency to do funny things to me. I had never felt this sexually attracted to a guy so soon, it was a shame he was such a jerk.

"What are you going to do for the rest of the day?"

I shrugged in response. "Don't go into the woods."

I looked at him now.

"Why?"

"It's not safe. Please just wait to go hiking or whatever until I'm with you." His blue eyes were intense and I saw that the hand he rested on the bar was clenched into a fist. It was the first time I had really taken in his arms and since he was tensing it was a good time to do so. Lewis was very well built.

I didn't get why he was being so weird about this but a strong part of me wanted to reassure him. My fingers inched of their own accord to his, trying to reach for his hand. I firmly returned my hands to my lap. I couldn't make the promise he wanted. Joe's museum had revealed some interesting factoids about this place and I needed to investigate them.

"I won't go hiking alone." I might, however, go for a walk...into the forest, alone. Lewis seemed relieved by my response. "See you around."   He didn't immediately leave. I looked at him expectantly.

"Go on a date with me, tomorrow night." It was rather direct. I smiled politely.

"Sorry, I don't think that will be a good idea." My response surprised him. He must have been pretty confident that he'd charmed me. That sucked for him. "Thank you for today though." It was me who left first, escaping into the stale outdoors.

I walked around the small town. It didn't have much. As John had advised I took a look at the church bulletin board. There was a lot going on but most of it was the kind of societies and clubs that my mum led. I decided to enjoy the sunshine and work on my tan. I was after all on a kind of holiday. I found a nice looking spot in the park and spread out a little picnic lunch I had purchased from the well-stocked newsagent. I shut my eyes and leant back, enjoying the heat of the sun on my face.

My relaxation was abruptly intruded upon. Something hard collided with my head. Caught by surprise, I fell back and yelped. My hand went up to my head. Ouch! That bloody hurt.

"Oh my God I'm so sorry!"

I opened my eyes to see a concerned face close to mine. It belonged to a young woman. She had red hair, an abundance of freckles and one blue eye and one brown one. She was beautiful. "Are you alright? Christ, you're bleeding!" Seriously beautiful with a slim petite frame, little nose and perfectly shaped eyebrows. "Teddy, run and fetch a first aid kit from the house!" She instructed a small boy. "Can you hear me? How many fingers am I holding up?"
