Theo was trying his best to pay attention. The fact that he was still trying but failing was distracting Scott. Something had started to pull at Theo's attention when a scent wafted through the air. The open window had a soft, warm breeze brushing through it and the scent was almost alluring.

Theo could barely stay in his seat. When the bell rang he was scrambling to his feet. Scott tried to get his attention but he was off before Scott could even call his name. "What's up with him?"

"I'm not sure." Scott admitted though he could smell the scent of a witch nearby. "I think it could be (Y/N)."

"Why would she be here?" Stiles asked quickly. He waved at Lydia who joined them in tracking Theo through the crowded halls.

"Because of the pact. They called Derek, Deaton and the Sherriff into a meeting last night. They're unhappy about the link between (Y/N) and Theo so they want to set out boundaries. It's pretty archaic but if (Y/N) is injured because of the link they're allowed to push us out of Beacon Hills." Lydia explained.

"They can do that?"

"Not really, there would be more negotiating but it's the beginning. It's not like Wolves have been overly respectful to the witches in the past. Derek promised to speak with Satomi about the witches, if she agrees to partake in the peace pact as well it's an entirely different ball game. They're willing to make an alliance in that case."

"That's great. But why exactly is (Y/N) here now?" Scott asked Lydia as he took on board what she'd said. He hadn't thought to check in with Derek about the negotiating. He was just glad he could get all his school work done and relax, it'd been a long time since anything close to an enemy was willing to negotiate for peace.

When they finally caught up with Theo he was lingering outside the head principal's office. He seemed to be entirely focused on the room because Stiles tapped his shoulder and made him jump.

"You alright Theo?" Stiles asked quickly.

"(Y/N) is in there. She has to attend."

"Yeah, we got that. Any ideas why?" Stiles waited as Theo listened again and shrugged.

"I think they want (Y/N) to join in with the pack, the rest of the witches will have to live among us if they stay in Beacon Hills so... I suppose my bond with (Y/N) is the best way to test if we're trustworthy or not." Theo suggested. Scott frowned for a moment but nodded, he was sure the pack wouldn't cause to much trouble.

The door yanked open and the group stepped away from the door. Failing to look inconspicuous as the Principle pointed at Theo.

"Ah! Here he is. Your mother mentioned you knew Mr Raeken so he'll show you around for a while. Just until you get settled." The principle said, not asking Theo as he went back into his office.

Scott's hope that the pack wouldn't get into trouble was crushed by lunch. Liam and Hayden had been late for school. When they finally showed up at Lunch they informed the pack of something that had attacked them the night before and how they had spent hours escaping and hiding from it.

"You don't know what it was?" You asked quickly.

"No. Why would we, it just came at us." Liam said quickly as he finished describing it to Scott and Lydia who were noting down everything he said.

"Surely you have a study of local mythology and a bestiary that your pack keeps?"

"Urm. Well not really." Scott admitted and you sighed, rolling your eyes.

"After school we can consult with the elders about what they think it is. I'm sure yours will want to deal with it quickly."

"After school? We should go and find any evidence of it now!" Stiles said quickly. You watched people getting to their feet ready to go until you put your hand up.

"You cannot be serious. We're supposed to be educating ourselves, not getting killed." You pointed out and Scott waited for a moment causing the rest of the pack to hesitate. "Shouldn't you just inform your elders and let them deal with it?"

"We don't really... I mean we could ask Derek and Peter if they'd help. I'm sure Satomi wouldn't mind helping. But we usually deal with this stuff." Scott admitted.

With a sigh you waved your hands and agreed that, for now, you would do things their way. After all you were there to learn the flaws in the way the wolf packs ran, so you were capable of negotiating later, though you hadn't imagined your first day with them would have you charging at death head on.

Most of the evidence had been washed away by a gentle rain by the time Liam had left the right way. Theo stuck close to you, seeming to obediently retrieve anything you thought would be useful.

"There's a claw stuck in this tree." You pointed out. Scott paused and looked at it. Lydia held up her sketch book of claws and hummed.

"That's not one I've seen before. We'd have to ask Deaton. Do you think you could get it out of there whole?" Lydia glanced over her shoulder at you as she spoke.

"Of course!"

"I'll stay with (Y/N) and help." Theo offered as the pack moved on.

Getting the claw out was harder than you thought it would be. Theo couldn't pull or dig it out of the wood and it seemed to absorb anyspell you used. It started to get dark. While Theo assured you he could still hear the pack, you pointed out that it could be anything in the woods.

"Somethings coming." Theo warned as he stood behind you, defensively.

"Well whatever it is will have to wait I almost have the whole claw." You snapped. Theo growled slightly as whatever it was slowed and seemed to crouch in the undergrowth. He had the distinct feeling he was being stalked by something bigger than him. That sent a tingle of adrenaline through him and he started to think of ways away from the danger.

"Got it!" You said victoriously as you finally pulled the claw free after hours of trying.

As soon as you spoke, Theo grabbed you, darting side way as a huge beast sprung from the bushes and collided with the tree.

Theo scrambled backwards over the ground as he looked at the monster, he couldn't think of a different way to describe it.

"We need to get away from here." You warned Theo who was clambering to his unseay feet as he pulled you through the woods. He lifted you up on his shoulder at one point, realising you weren't quite as fast as he was when it came to darting and weaving through the trees.

"We'll get to Deaton's it's the closest." Theo said as he finally burst out of the tree line. He could see that the pack were the other end of the long road by the car, they'd glanced his way as he emerged, running the opposite way.

"Shouldn't you tell them what's happening?" You asked Theo. You had very little faith in how the McCall pack functioned and nowthis plan seemed sure to fail.

"No, they'll see it follow us and get Derek and Peter, probably Parrish as well. It's following the claw so Deaton will be able to stop whatever it's emitting. Hopefully."

"Hopefully! You're risking my life on a hopefully?" You snapped and went quiet when the creature burst out into the road. It was bigger than the jeep, dull in colour and ran on all fours.

"I won't let it hurt you!" Theo promised as he ran as fast as he could. While something in him begged to drop you and the claw and keep running, to shift and flee, he couldn't loosen his arms around you, he couldn't let you go. Seeing the vet in the distance he pushed himself to speed up.
