The way back {chapter 8}

Kate just stood there all stunned. What the hell had just happened?

'He kissed me just like that?! We haven't known each other for more than two weeks' Kate thought and started to walk towards her apartment.

While she was walking her phone rang, it was Lanie.

"Hey girl what's up?" Lanie said.

"Hey, I'm on my way home now.." Kate said and stopped at a red light.

Should she tell Lanie about Rick. 'No, I keep it to myself for a bit longer' Kate thought and walked over the crosswalk.

"Why so late?"Lanie asked knowing that something was up.

"Oh the session went over time and I'm not in a hurry home so walked kind of slow." Kate answer thinking that Lanie should buy it.

"Okey but you are okey?" Lanie asked.

"Yes, I'm okey...I need to hang up now gonna order some food." Kate said while she stopped outside the corner store and just looked at it.

She remembered the first bottle she bought after they had taken William it was a horrible day and Kate just wanted it to be over.

She heard Lanie calling on her.

"Kate are you there?" Lanie asked.

"Yes, just stopped outside the store.." Kate said without thinking.

Lanie just froze.

"Kate you're not going in right?" Lanie said horrified.

Kate had continued to walked towards the apartment.

"Oh, no I just stopped and looked at it.. I will never drink again if I can do two weeks then I can do some more." Kate said and stepped into the elevator and clicked on the 4 floor.

"Lanie I really have to hung up and order food I'm starving." Kate said as the elevator stopped and I little guy and his mother stepped on.

"Okey, bye." Lanie said and Kate slipped her phone into her pocket.

Kate got into the apartment and laid the phone down on the counter after ordering some thai food and walked into the bedroom and change clothes into some more comfy clothes.

When Rick left Kate on the street it was the best feeling but at the same time he wanted to stay there forever. He didn't know what it was with her but something was there and he would do anything to help her so he grabbed a cab and headed home. When he arrived home he took the stairs up to clear his head and when he walked into the apartment he meet an angry little girl.

"DADDY! where have you been?" Alexis yelled at him

"I have been having a group. I said that to you before I left earlier." Rick explained.

"Yes you did but it usually take 1,5 hour not 3 hours!" Alexis yelled but all Rick could do was laugh at her because seeing a 6 year old Alexis yelling at you was the cutest thing ever.

"I'm sorry sweetie but I'm here now and I will be here all night."Rick said and took of his coat and hung into the wardrobe and walked into the kitchen where his mother was pouring up a glass of wine.

"Hello kiddo.." Martha said and placed the wine bottle on the counter and walked over to the couch.

"Hello mother, how are you today? I didn't see you at lunch before." Rick said and grabbed a glass and a coke and walked over to the couch too.

Rick couldn't stop thinking about Kate and Martha saw that something was wrong. After all she was his mother.

"What's on your mind Richard." Martha asked.

"Oh, nothing it's just I have a client at one of my meetings today and she doesn't have the easiest life and I just want to help her trying to get back to normal." Rick said and looked down at his glass of coke.

"Richard you have helped hundreds of people and if you really want you can help this girl too..are you uhm...sure there's nothing else." Martha teased him a little.

Rick knew his mother and he knew that she could see in his eyes that something else was bothering him.

"Today at the session this girl we can name her Nicole and she had a panic attack and I had to end it earlier because she needed help and we talked and when she was about to go home I followed her and then we stopped at a cafe for coffee we had a really great time and then I could feel a tension between us that something was there and when she left I followed her and kissed her." Rick said almost out of breath.

Martha just looked at him.

"And?" Martha said and that wasn't really what Rick had expected.

"I'm scared that she won't come back to the next meeting and I really want to get to know her and help her get back to her son." Rick said without thinking.

"Her son?" Martha asked.

Rick doesn't usually talk to Martha about his people in his session but Martha could feel a difference.

"I don't wanna talk about it..."Rick said and stood up and just like that Alexis came running down the stairs.

"Daddy?! Can we watch the little mermaid?" Alexis and give him her puppy eyes.

"Sweetie it's late. You have school tomorrow. Maybe we can watch it tomorrow." Rick said and gave her a little squeeze on her arm and walks into the kitchen and places the glass in the sink.

"But daddy...you haven't been home all day and now I have to go to bed..." Alexis said and Rick could see tears in her eyes.

"I'm sorry sweetie..." Rick said and walked towards her but Alexis ran up the stairs and before he could go after her he felt a hand on his shoulder it was Martha.

"I'll get her you go and write some or do something else to clear your mind." Martha said and walked after Alexis.

Rick walked into the office and sat down at his chair.

He hadn't written a thing in two weeks but tonight he felt like he had more ideas than ever. So he flipped open his Mac and opened his latest book Storm fall. He had the ending to write and right now he knew exactly what he wanted to do.

*Pling*

Rick opened the little notice in the corner. It was Kbex41319 that had send him a message.

"Hello? Are you there?" she had written.

He hesitated to text back but maybe he needed someone to talk to.

"Yes, I'm here." Rick wrote back.

Kate sat in her bed with her computer and a cup of tea.

*Pling*

"Yes, I'm here." had applewritermonkey written.

A smile came upon Kate's lips so she placed her cup on the nightstand.

"Oh, hey. Can we talk or are you busy?" Kate wrote back.
