The way back {chapter 23}

When the car drove into the garage Kate walked out to help Rick out from the car. After getting him out from the car they walked towards the elevator when Rick suddenly grabbed Kate's hand.
"Thanks for doing this after everything that has happened." Rick said and looked at Kate who looked away shy.
Rick took his chance and let got of her hand and move it up to her face to place a light kiss on her lips just as the elevator interrupted their moment and the doors opened and they both stepped inside and Rick pressed the button for his floor.
The ride up to his floor was almost a little awkward, last time they ended up in his bed and that was the only time Kate really had been there in his house and now she would be there living with him and his family. Suddenly the elevator stopped at his floor and he looked up to see Kate looking at him with her beautiful eyes.
"You okay?" she asked and smiled that beautiful smile.
"Yeah, let's go.." he said and grabbed her hand and they walked out towards his door.
What they didn't know was that Martha and Alexis had done a little welcome party for Rick when he came home so when the two of them got inside Alexis screamed out "welcome home dad" and ran towards to hug him while Martha came running after her.
"Alexis be careful.." she said when she got up to them.
Alexis hadn't seen Kate that was behind Rick outside the door. So when Kate took a step to the right and met the little girls eyes, she smiled up in a super cute little smile and walked up almost a little shy and gave Kate a hug.
"Hey, Kate.." she said and hugged her again. Kate could feel the hug get tighter and it was so weird that this little girl accepted her so quickly and that Kate could already feel so much love for the little girl.
"Hey Alexis.." Kate said and hugged her back.

The little "family" walked into the loft and this time Kate really got to see it and she was speechless. Last time she had been a little tipsy even tho she wasn't suppose to drink and when she now was sober and could see the colors and the fire beside the huge kitchen she was speechless. It was truly a beautiful loft and she could really see the author Richard Castle in it somehow. Martha and Alexis had been cooking all morning so when they walked up to the kitchen there was food everywhere.
"Oh my.." Kate said and just looked at all the food. There was pancakes, eggs,bacon, juice everything that you want to have on a brunch.
"Let's dig in!" Martha said and gave everyone accept Rick a plate. Kate got two, one for her and one for Rick and she helped him pick everything he wanted to have.
When his plate was full she sat it down on his place and grabbed some food for herself. While doing that she could really see the love the family had for each other which made her think about William even more and she couldn't help it but a few tears ran down her cheek when she heard Alexis laugh at her dad. She wanted her little boy there with them. He would love this, having a family and not just her.

After eating brunch they all together decided to watch a movie and just have a chill day at home. Alexis choose "the little mermaid" which she still hadn't seen since last time she asked her father so they were all cuddled up on the couch. Rick had his arm pillowed up with a lot of pillows and beside him there was Alexis and then Martha. Kate had chosen to sit in one of the armchairs because she knew how much Rick needed this and likewise with Alexis.
Half throught the movie she felt her eyelids get heavier and just seconds later she had fallen asleep. The last day had been a tough one and a lot of emotions had taken up all the energy from her so falling asleep in one of Rick's super comfy armchairs was just what she needed.

Rick saw that Kate had fallen asleep and asked Alexis to grab a blanket to cover her with and Alexis had run up to her room and gotten her softest blanket and when she got down she carefully placed it over Kate who snuggled into it right away.
"I think she likes it as much as me.." Alexis whispered and moved back up beside Rick.
Rick just smiled at Alexis, he was really surprised over how far Alexis had come when it came to Kate. She weren't the girl that got along with his girlfriends but there were something different with Kate which he wasn't surprise at all because she was amazing even if she had done mistakes, she were now fixing them and they would sooner than later all be a big family.
