'Did you find anything?' Jim tiptoed in the next morning.

'It's a nerve poison. It must have absorbed through his skin.' Jenny said without looking up.

Her body felt exhausted, but still her hands moved furiously, typing on the Space Padd.

'Did he say who it was who did that to him?' Jim asked.

'Why do you keep asking? Are you worried he said it was you?' Jenny snapped irritably.

'What?' Kirk faltered.

'Go away. I can't work when you're pestering me. You're supposed to be his best friend so let me help him.'

Jim seemed momentarily thoughtful before swallowing hard, his face assuming a sad expression. 'He is. He's the best friend I've ever had. I'm sorry.' He turned and nearly ran away.

Jenny watched him go, frowning slightly. 'Something isn't right.'

Bones was still sedated, the machines keeping him alive.

Jenny bent down from her work and gingerly perched on the edge of his sickbed. 'What were you trying to tell me McCoy? What were you trying to say?'

Her mind raced with all the information. Nerve poison. Through the skin. Bones said it was Jim. She felt like her head would burst.

'I need a drink.' Jenny sighed, before smiling. 'Not Krishan whisky.' She felt a little pang at that. 'McCoy I would give anything to be unconscious on my bed with you safe on my floor....even if it was the most embarrassing morning of my life.'

He gave no response, still unconscious.

'We're friends right McCoy?' She asked hesitantly, watching his face.

There was no change, and she resigned herself to a sigh. Nope probably not.

She had been talking aimlessly to his catatonic form all night, everything from her early life to her favorite colours. It passed the time at least and she didn't particularly believe that he could hear her anyway.

Jenny dragged herself over to a cupboard and chugged some water.

'You need some food.' Spock's wife Vi stood in the doorway.

Jenny had seen her around the ship. She seems nice enough.

'I can't right now. I wouldn't say we're exactly friends but I'll try to save him.' She joked tiredly.

Vi smiled. 'I don't have long. What food do you want?'

'Anything.' Jenny tipped some water into her palm and splashed it on her face.

Vi nodded and disappeared.

Jenny had met Vi on her second day. Spock and Vi were only on the ship for another week. Scotty had somewhat illegally perfected transplanetary warp, and used it to teleport the couple to the Enterprise whenever required.

Jenny enjoyed watching how much Spock and Vi adored each other, though both maintained the stoic Vulcan facade of emotionless stone. Spock did better at this then Vi.

She returned to Bones' side and dabbed his forehead with a cold, damp towel.

'I brought some cheese and apple.' Vi came with the plate.

'Thanks.' She ate in silence. 'Was Spock with him yesterday?' She swallowed, pointing to Bones.

'Briefly I think, yes. Why?'

'Vi I don't know you that well. Can I trust you?' Jenny bit into the apple.

'Unfailingly.'

'He said it was Jim. Before he passed out. He wasn't very coherent but he said it was Kirk.'
