Jenny woke up still in the gym, the broken bag swinging aimlessly from its hook.

She tiptoed out guiltily.

Uhura was concerned when she returned from her shift and found she wasn't there, but figured she was with Bones.

Jenny came into the room like a ghost. Her face chalky white from her breakdown and the dust from the gym, her eyes bloodshot.

She took a hot shower before putting on her favourite sweater and curling up on the bed with a PADD.

Jenny had been staying with Uhura, sleeping on a mattress on the floor for two days before the Incident ™ with Bones.

But deep down she knew that wouldn't work forever. Now she worked on some assignments online. She was determined to get some kind of Star Fleet qualification.

She couldn't complete the Academy from the PADD but if she could at least get them to sign her off on something, she would use it as bargaining power with Kirk.

Meanwhile Bones was trying to piece together that night. In his drunken haze he remembered a woman in the rec room, but Angela couldn't remember either.

He gulped, hoping it wasn't anyone important. Angela remembered them kissing, something that Bones found uncomfortable. He wasn't sure why that had happened, but he knew he didn't have any deep feelings for her, and needed to say as much before it was too late.

'Hey there darlin',' he started gently, 'I need to talk about that night.'

A day had passed since then, as they were both too hungover to talk about anything the next day.

'I wanted to as well.' Angela started, her shy smile making Bones feel even more guilty.

'I can't go out with you.' Bones blurted.

Angela's face crumpled. 'Oh.'

'It's not you darlin' it's just.. well..' Bones tried helplessly.

'It's fine it's fine. Permission to take my break doctor?' Angela choked out.

Bones gave up and granted it. She ran away crying. He groaned and held his head in his hands. When did his life get so complicated?

Meanwhile Jenny was down in engineering, hiding out with Keenser and keeping a low profile.

'I heard you went to see that doctor last night.' Scotty winked.

She didn't reply, instead continuing to work on the panel she was on.

'How'd it go?' He asked optimistically, but his good mood faded when he saw Jenny's face.

'I've lost him.'

'Oh.' Scotty murmured softly.

'I'll be fine. I'm just too emotional at the moment. I need to take my mind off things.'

'Aye well I can teach ya how to make the old girl sing.' Scotty grinned.

For the next few days he taught her everything he knew about the Enterprise. She learned how every circuit and cog fitted in with the next so the whole warpcore ran smoothly.

She also improved her computers skills. She had had an intense few months, but she felt like she was getting back to being herself.

In return for the help, Jenny had taught Scotty some new fighting techniques. He didn't mention Bones but as they passed a nurse in the hall her eyes clouded.

You can't just pretend it doesn't hurt anymore. It hurts, but you can work past it. McCoy can still be a friend and nothing more.

Jenny shook her head to clear the thoughts from her mind as they entered the gym and started to train.
