And this is the moment I regret having no female friends to speak of.
She stared at her wardrobe.
Jeans, boots. Combat shirt.
Star Fleet uniform.
I'm doomed.
A knock startled her out of her despair.
'It's McCoy.'
'Come in, I'm in the bedroom.' She shut the wardrobe.
'I'm guessin' Jim's already invited you to dinner tonight?' Bones scratched his neck bashfully.
'Unfortunately.' She rolled her eyes. 'But I don't have anything to wear so I might not make it.'
'Whadda ya mean you've got nothing to wear? Women are always so dramatic.'
'And that's why you're single. I don't have any dresses to wear. Take a look.' She opened the wardrobe.
'Geez you weren't kiddin.' He grimaced.
'No I wasn't. I have nothing.' She sighed.
'Hmm. There's gotta be something.'
'I can't magic something out of nothing.' She crossed her arms, raising her eyebrows.
'Maybe I can.' Bones smirked, leaning down over her.
Stay calm stay calm stay calm. Don't focus on his hair, or his smile, or his cologne.
'Come with me.' He stepped back.
She exhaled as soon as his back was turned and scampered after.
'Uhura!' He hollered, and a beautiful woman with creamy chocolate skin turned around. 'I got a friend that needs a dress. You're a woman, you could help her.'
Jenny cringed. 'I'm Jenny, and it's fine.'
'Bones only comes when he wants something.' Uhura slapped his shoulder. ' I'm deprived of female company on this bridge. Come with me.'
She followed uneasily.
'I'm Nyota Uhura. I haven't seen you before, are you new?'
'Sort of. I'm just a passenger.'
'You're that bounty hunter Kirk keeps going on about aren't you?' Uhura realised with a grin.
'Kirk goes on about any woman who gives him the time of day.' Jenny rolled her eyes.
Uhura snorted, pushing open her room door. 'We're gonna get along just fine.'
'Sorry about this, I have no idea why McCoy decided to do this.'
'Don't be sorry at all, this is going to be fun. How come you know Kirk and Bones?' She opened her wardrobe. 'I remember when you were transported aboard, but you seemed to know them from before that.'
'I met McCoy on Fradner, and then I had to come on board for a little while.' She explained. 'I was the crew woman who went to help him, but I was disguised at the time.'
'That was you?' Uhura connected all the dots. 'You called yourself Sally something then didn't you?'
'Yes. I forgot you never knew me as, well, me.'
'Try this.' Uhura pulled out a dress.
'But are we the same size?' Jenny held it up to her body, examining it.
