Her astonishing blue eyes were staring at the "creature" that was thrown so roughly in front of her. Daria never before saw a man like that in her life, not because he was a cripple, no, something like that could be seen every day on the cold streets of Kiev, but his eyes, his moves, the way he spoke, the way he was so fearless even thought Daria wasn't known as such a merciful person. Maybe it was because he was a Varyag, and they are never afraid of death, in fact they welcome it with an open arms expecting that they are going to see Valkyras who will take them to Valhalla, where they will celebrate every single day with their loved ones they lost in the battles.

Oh, if she believed in something like that, she wouldn't be so deeply afraid of departing from her life sometimes.

"My princess we found this man with his companions traveling down the Silk road, this man claims to be a king, even though...he is a cripple." The guard said looking down at her guest with disgust. The sound of laughter filled the room.

"Tишина!" Her voice echoed trough the room making everyone look down at their feet silently, but not her guest whose name she didn't get just yet. His eyes watched her amused.

Then she spoke in the old Norse language so fluently, that his eyes flushed with surprise .

"You don't need legs to rule. You need only your head. Forgive me, for unkindness of my guards, but if you really are a king, then you can understand why I don't appreciate the visits of the strangers. Speak now, who are you? And what brought you here? And don't bother to lie to me,, your man are already tortured and being asked the same questions. Be careful or you may join them." She said.

"You speak my language..." Her guest answered surprised. This woman was nothing like any other woman he meet before.

"I speak many languages, your just happened to be one of them. Now answer my questions." She demanded.

"My name is Ivar the Boneless, son of Ragnar I used to be a King of Kattegat, but I lost a fight with my brothers, they took my kingdom away. I have nothing to offer you princess, and it was no my intention to trouble you with my presence." He answered. Then she remembered, she used to read about the cripple king that invaded Kattegat, and about his cruel ways of ruling. This man in front of her, is not stupid and she knew that, there must be a reason he was here.

"Ivar the Boneless. Your fame traveled around the silk road, and I heard many stories about you. We will see what are your true intentions Ivar, and will your presence truly trouble me." Daria said and with swift move of her hand she ordered the guards to take the prisoner to his chambers.

Before they took him, Ivar took a good look at the princess. Her piercing blue eyes, a long white hair that was caressing her pale face, and those small blood like crimson lips, and that slim figure wrapped in a blue dress. He wanted to be able to close his eyes and still see her face. If he died here, by her orders, that would be more glorious death then to die in any kind of a battle.

Ivar was sent to his chambers, to his own surprise, that cruel princess didn't throw him in the dark cell. She ordered servants to give him a warm meal, and left the door unlocked. But the guards were in front of it. He was now trapped in the maze of her questionable hospitality.

While Ivar was getting used to his new accommodation, his traveling companions were doing the same, just, their experience of it wasn't so pleasant.

"Tell me, why do you think Ivar is a god?" Daria asked, a man whose face was covered with blood, but his horrifying screams were enough to show the agony he was in.

They were standing in the dark, room where so many people have suffered, so many people were tortured to madness so the kingdom could be well protected. Daria wanted to find out everything she could about her new guest.

Daria allowed Ivar to have some rest, while she was carefully gathering every possible information about him. The more information she knew , the more mysterious he was becoming to her. Ivar didn't seem like he was a broken man, but he had lost so much in his life. His mother, his wife and as Daria found out, he had lost a child as well. Knowing all that, she was determinated to find a deep sadness in his eyes and use it as his weakness in the case she needed to do so.

The morning after he was taken as a prisoner, Daria sent for Ivar again. The guards took him in the throne room and threw him beneath her feet.

"To my own surprise, you haven't ordered them to kill me yet." Ivar said.

"To my own surprise, I found out that my prisoner is a god. Of course, we are Christians now, so we wouldn't accept a pagan god, but I would like you to prove to me who you really are." She answered.

"I told you already, I am a son of Ragnar, I descended from Odin himself." He answered looking her straight into her blue eyes.

"You are so proud..." Daria chuckled at his words. "And who made you believe that? Was it a woman? All of us have special talent to make people believe nonsense." She said, expecting that he will get angry at her words. She was sure that he could provocate him, use his weaknesses to manipulate him, get in his mind and break every piece of him, simply because he was so different, he show no fear to her.

But Ivar only laughed.

"I see you done your research about me princess. Go on, what else did you find out? I am waiting to hear your thoughts about my life. Is it because you tortured my companions to death to tell you everything or is it because you are prophet?" Ivar asked, now making Daria chuckle with amusement.

"Whatever you want to believe in." She said and poured herself a cup of wine, she took a sip letting the sour, purple liquid t slightly burn her throat and warm her body. "Would you like some?" she asked him.

"I would love to princess, but if you poison me, I will be really disappointed." He answered.

"Poison you?" She asked chuckling. "Of course not, I am way more creative then that. Maybe I would prefer to make you feel more welcome, and try to do something that is Norse custom, like blood eagle? I am curious to find out would you scream during it." She said handing him his cup of wine, while he was looking at her as if he was enchanted by her words.

"Scream? No princess. I would stay quiet the whole during the time of agonizing pain, you would decide to put me trough if that would make you happy. And then I would enter Valhalla to see my father. But tell me princess, if you really are a prophet as they say, is it my time to go yet?" He asked.

Daria remained quiet for a moment, it was almost as if he was mocking her, as if he didn't believe that she could decide his fate with only one, single word.

"You love playing with your life don't you?" Daria asked taking another sip of her wine.

"Valhalla can wait, I have different plans for you."
