"So that is how you are planning to take back our homeland..." Hvitserk said as he was listening to Ivar's plans. He was sitting beside his brother, outside, next to the fire, drinking something that Rus called "tea" and it was slowly warming him up after he was wandering around the forest completely alone and thinking about will he be able to survive the winter, or more like hopping that he wouldn't survive it. If Bjorn had killed him, maybe everything would be much easier.
"Yes brother, we are going to take it back. I hate that my brother made you believe that I am your enemy Hvitserk. I am happy to see you, truly happy to see you." Ivar answered. After all no matter what he had done, Hvitserk stood by his side, deep inside Hvitserk was loyal to Ivar. Was it fear or love? Ivar wasn't sure, but he knew one thing, he will make sure that Hvitserk is on the winning side.
"Rus have a strong army, and a strong princess to lead them." Hvitserk said taking another sip of his tea.
"She is the strongest woman that I know." Ivar said as he was looking into the distance.
"Do you love her?" Hvitserk asked.
"With all my heart."
"Do you think you deserve her?" Hvitserk asked and Ivar tried hard not to think about that question because he knew the answer, she deserved so much better but he wasn't able to let her go.
"Of course not, I will never." Ivar answered and chuckled.
"You are still crazy Ivar." Hvitserk answered and chuckled at his brother. Then Thora crossed his mind, the woman who he loved so much, and the woman he promised that he is going to protect with his life, and yet Ivar burned her alive. He often haunted his mind, sometimes, he was sure that he was seeing a ghost of her, and to that ghost he promised that he will avenge her.
But maybe, he could forgive his brother for what he had done.
"Be careful. Protect her, don't let anyone hurt her, or it would destroy you." Hvitserk answered. The way he looked at her, Hvitserk was sure that he was the most precious something to his brother. It wasn't like Freydis, she was so much different, and he never saw his own brother showing this much love to someone.
"I will protect her with my life Hvitserk. Don't worry about me." Ivar said as he touched his shoulder. "I hope that someday you will be able to forgive me." Ivar said. The guilt was eating him out, what he had done to his brother, and yet here they are, together again, about to fight their battle together.
"Someday I will."
Brynhildr came over to two of brothers, with Igor by her side. She spent the day interrogating the prisoners and learning more about the Kattegat, and the way she could fight her enemies. But now the soldiers were celebrating for their victory and mourning their dead, and they were sure that they were going to win. They trusted their princess, she lead them into the battles, and fought beside them in the first rows, she was as strong as her husband was, maybe even stronger.
"What are you two doing here all alone? Come and drink with us." Brynhildr said and looked at Hvitserk. "Is that really a tea?" She asked.
"She does have a bit problems with wine..." Igor said and giggled.
"We are celebrating Igor." Brynhilde said and chuckled, as she moved and sat in Ivar's lap.
"Igor, didn't ask you not to allow her to drink?" Igor asked as he was warping his arms around her.
"I tried!" Igor said and sat beside Hvitserk.
"Why were you in the woods all alone?" Brynhildr asked Hvitserk looking at him with curiosity. He must have done something terrible, if he was banished out of his home to the cruel forest to die alone out of coldness and hunger. Brynhildr could never imagine the worse punishment then that.
"I killed her." Hvitserk said and looked at Ivar. "I killed Lagertha. In the end it was me to do that, to avenge our mother. It was my destiny." Hvitserk said, the hint of sorrow and regret showed up in his trembling voice as he remembered what he had done, and what pain it caused to Bjorn. He had never seen him that angry. And now he was all alone.
The silence showed up between them. Ivar swore that he will be the one to kill Lagertha, but then again, he could not believe that she was truly dead, and that Hvitserk done something like that. His brother, Hvitserk was completely broken, and he was to blame because of that. Maybe he didn't know how to love, maybe all that he could do is to hurt people. Ivar hated himself for that.
"I am sorry brother." Ivar said.
Brynhildr smiled at Hvitserk and she took his cold, trembling hand in her own.
"Hey. It is alright Hvitserk. You are with us now, none of your bothers will be able to hurt you. You are under my protection and we are going to fight together. You will start the whole new life. I know that you are going to be happy. Trust me." Brynhildr said and Hvitserk smiled at her words. Coming from her, everything sounded like a sweet song, so comforting that it could make him cry.
"Thank you princess." Hvitserk said and Brynhildr smiled at him once again before she got up hearing the soldiers playing the music as they celebrated.
"Now come on, I want to dance!" Brynhildr said as she got up from Ivar's lap.
"You know that I can't dance." Ivar said and he shook his head.
"Yes you can, everyone will dance, that is an order!" Brynhildr said.
"I really like her. She is as crazy as you are." Hvitserk said and Ivar laughed getting up from where he was sitting. Right now, he had everything, he had his family beside him, and he could see them happy, and in that moment, Ivar felt so blessed.
Soon, the big battle for Kattegat will come, but he didn't even doubt that they will win. After all when they do, he will merry the woman he loves so much.
Ivar walked over to Brynhildr and warped his arms around her.
"I love you, I love you so much." Ivar whispered in her ear as he was hugging her tightly. Brynhildr smiled at his words and hugged him resting peacefully in his arms where she fitted so perfectly. She didn't even have to answer, he already knew everything already.
Hey everyone. Sorry for such a short chapter, but I am trying to recover from the last episode of Vikings so far! Also I love Hvitserk and I believed he deserved to have one chapter dedicated to him!
