The winter completely abandoned her body, making her feel warmth spreading along her soul, as well as the feelings raging in her heart, some of them were beautiful and some of them not so pleasant. But she embraced everything, she wanted to feel everything she missed out for so long, longing for love, longing for being loved again. As soon as she heard Ivar's sweet voice, she opened her eyes again looking him through the tears that were blurring her vision.
Brynhildr was different, so much different than she used to be. Her blue eyes were warmer than ever before. Her once pale skin, finally gotten some colour, her cheeks became slightly pink. And her long once almost silver hair became so much darker than it used to be. In Ivar's eyes she was absolutely Godess, she looked so much healthier, so much younger.
Every trace of the cruel winter completely left her. Only then Ivar understood that the winter had been haunting her for her whole life and that she was destined to become the queen of it someday. But those days were over. Now she was only his queen, and a mother of their child.
Suddenly, the ice that was surrounding them began disappearing.
"It is alright, everything is alright now. You came back to me" Ivar whispered with his shaky voice. The moment he saw the traumatised look on her face, he promised to himself that he will never allow her to know how much she had been destroying him little by little every single day. He will lock it as a secret and keep it until the day he dies.
"Ivar..." Brynhildr whispered his name letting it slip from her lips like a most desperate prayer not daring to touch him, scared of the emotions she could feel, because she worried her heart could explode at any moment if that was even possible.
"Yes love, I am here." Ivar said sitting on the bed beside her. He wanted to pull her into his arms and hold her tightly, he wanted to kiss her lips with burning desire, he wanted to tell her so much, but he knew that he should take it slow.
"And you are carrying our child. We are going to be a family." Ivar said.
Brynhildr's hands were shaking as she touched her belly. She slowly nodded as she flashed him the most beautiful smile Ivar ever saw in his life.
And that is the moment both of them lost the control of their actions and as quickly as it was possible for them, moved their bodies towards each other hugging tightly holding each other silently for some time.
They found solace in each other arms. That was where they both belonged.
After so much changes, after the wars, after the journey of love and pain, were still there, and they still loved each other more then any word could ever express it.
"I missed you, I missed you so much." Ivar finally broke the silence and caressed her hair.
"I am so sorry for everything, please forgive me... If you ever could..." Brynhildr said trough the tears.
"Everything was forgiven a long time ago." Ivar said as his hand caressed her cheek, wiping away the tear that was rolling down.
"Please don't cry, I don't want to see you like that. We are going to be a parents and get married here in Kattegat, just like I promised to you." Ivar said making her curve her lips into a slight smile once again. He wished she woukd never stop smiling.
"That's my girl." Ivar said.
"You never gave up no matter what I did to you, you stayed with me." Brynhildr said touching his hand.
"I simply knew that you would never hurt me."
The two of them were lost in each other's eyes, for a moment they remained like that just looking each other when Ivar placed his hand on her belly caressing it.
"We are going to be a parents." Ivar said again almost not believing his own words.
He was going to become a father, this gorgeous ans strong woman in front of him was carrying his child.
With no winter in her heart, Brynhildr could now completely give herself to him, and that she was she had done. She smiled closing the space between their lips locking them together into a soft kiss that slowly became more passionate. The warmth of each other's skin reminded them of the old days when they meet each other and fall in love deeply with no coming back, even after everything they been trough, and soon the clothes was being thrown on the ground.
"I done this." Brynhildr whispered touching the scars on his back that he had earned from the whipping she ordered so many times. Ivar took her hand in his before she could examine more of the scars.
"It's alright. It didn't hurt."
"But it hurts me." Brynhildr said. Those scars will remain on his body forever, remind her of the horrors she had done.
"You are already healing me Brynhildr. There is nothing to hurt anymore." Ivar said befire bringing their lips together once again.
To be able to forgive her and love her again, after everything she done to him in the past, to be able to handle it with such a grace, Ivar probably needed to posses a godlike power.
Rest of the night is a history they will keep in their hearts until their very last breath.
But heavy is the head that wears the crown, as the fragile are the hearts of those that love, and the real war was patiently awaiting for them.
Now they had so much more lose, so much more to fight for.
But Brynhildr was sure about one thing, she will never lose herself again, because she wasn't only a queen anymore, she will have so much more important title, she will become a mother and that was her redemption for everything she had done. Maybe she didn't deserve it, maybe she was destined now, to feel the eternal affliction because she hurt the one that she loved the most, but at least she was sure that she will never feel solitude again in her life.
Because no matter what happens, Ivar the Boneless will remain by her side.
"I don't have anymore powers Ivar, what are we going to do if people start to rebel now?" Brynhildr asked him as she leaned her head on his bare chest.
"We will declare the war to the whole world." Ivar answered kissing her forehead.
Brynhildr felt her eyelids getting heavy, and soon she fall asleep in the arms of the man that she loved as he held her close to him trough the whole night.
