Chapter 2

Gaston's POV

The guards of the prison forgot to strip me of the blade that was hiding in one of my boots. I scoff, those foolish, dim human beings. I love how people who aren't suited for that kind of position are the ones that get to be in charge. I'm baffled by this, truly. I'm sitting on my pathetic excuse of a bed twirling my blade in my hands out of absolute boredom when I hear footsteps approach my cell. I sit up straight and approach the guard carefully when he's before me. He scowls at me, making his disdain for me very clear.

"Gaston, the village district has arranged for your trial to be in two days time. Prince Adam, his royal court, and Belle have agreed to these terms too." I nod. "Anything else you need to tell me?" He scoffs. "We're not comrades, why would I want to speak with you anymore than I'm obligated to?" I roll my eyes at him. "You're quite the charmer. I don't care to exchange excess words with you either, but there's one thing I'd like to know. If you won't tell me, I'll holler for one of the other guards to do so." He sighs. "Spit it out Gaston." I run a hand through my hair and sigh. "Is Lefou okay?" He nods. "Lefou is alive. He's currently living in the castle and isn't banished from the village because he cooperated with the terms set out before him unlike you. Honestly, he's also a far better person than you are."

I can't argue against that remark because Lefou is indeed a far better person than I am. The only reason why so many people tolerated me for so long was due to Lefou's presence around me. I silently thank the guard and watch him walk away from my cell feeling mixed emotions. I'm relieved that Lefou is alive but I fear for what his long term future looks like. What if Prince Adam brainwashes him into believing that I'm an evil villain? I know that it looks like I am the villain here but it would absolutely shatter me if Lefou was afraid to be near me.

I can't wait to see his face again... even if he decides to testify against me during the trial. I understand if he chooses to but that doesn't mean that I wouldn't be disappointed. I've asked so much of Lefou over the years and have hardly ever returned any favors back to him. Lefou is a grown man and it's entirely up to him to decide whether or not to testify against me. I've really missed him though, it's only been a few days but it feels like it's been years since I've seen him. Time has dragged slowly here in prison. Whatever the outcome of the trial is, I really hope that I don't have to spend the rest of my life in a dingy prison cell like this one. I'd rather be banished from the village than to rot in prison.
