Chapter 6
Gaston's POV
That night...
I toss and turn repeatedly in my surprisingly comfortable bed. Sweat is oozing out of my body and sweat is not an attractive feature on myself. My mind is racing with a million thoughts. I'm desperately longing to get even a couple of hours of sleep but my mind won't shut off. That's been my life story for the past week. After another hour of doing so, I quietly climb out of my bed and make my way down to the kitchen. There's a self serve 24 hour coffee, tea, hot chocolate, and water area. I make myself a soothing cup of chamomile hot tea and drink it slowly in front of the still glowing fireplace.
I nearly jump out of my chair though when a rather large hand touches my shoulder. I tense up a bit more though when I see that it's Adam. I take a shaky breath and force a smile onto my face. "Prince Adam, I'm sorry to have possibly awoken you. I couldn't sleep and figured that a fine cup of hot tea may soothe me enough where I can at least get a small wink of sleep." He nods. "I understand that tune better than you know, both before and while I was a beast. You know Gaston, while I'm still skeptical of you, what you're about to is a very admirable thing. Very few people in your shoes would agree to participating in a redemption program. Don't worry, I'll go easy on you for your first day tomorrow. It'll just be reviewing the basics of what the redemption program will entail. Each session per day is will be three hours long, long enough so you'll learn the material but short enough where you won't want to die of boredom."
I laugh sadly. "Thank you for showing me mercy. I've come to realize that I was the true beast and look forward to having a change in heart soon." He gives me a tired smile. "I'm pleased to hear that. By the way, you're very lucky to have a friend like Lefou. Even during the interrogation he had when he first arrived at the castle, he still managed to talk highly of you. He believed that you could become a good man with some guidance. Despite the villagers turning their backs on you, Lefou never did. People like him are special and don't come around often, so don't lose him. Okay?" A lump forms in my throat. When it comes to people talking about how much Lefou cares for me and/or how great of a person he is, I've been quite emotional lately.
"Thank you for giving me the chance to better myself through this program. As for Lefou, I'm not just lucky, I'm blessed. I've never met a single soul as lovely as he is and it would literally kill me to lose him. I would do anything for that man... anything." Adam looks at me wistfully. "It'll be interesting to see how this all plays out." I nod in agreement. "It certainly will be." The two of us talk for a few minutes more while I finish my cup of tea before calling it a night (hopefully for real this time). I do manage to get three hours of sleep before awoken by Lefou for breakfast before day one of redemption classes begin. I really hope that the redemption classes do indeed pay off for me and aren't a waste of my time.
