Chapter 17

Lefou's POV

Time Skip... Three Days Later...

I've finished reading "The Count of Monte Cristo" and I absolutely loved it. I've got to be honest though, I'm still surprised that Gaston wants to read it. The fact he wants to take most interest in one of my favorite hobbies is very touching. I'm on my way to his room to drop off the book so he can begin reading it. Belle and Adam don't mind if those living in the castle borrow books from the library, as long as they're returned eventually. I knock lightly on his door and Gaston answers a moment later. "Lefou! I just got back from class not too long ago. Please come in my love." He opens the door wider so allow me access into his room.

I grin at him like I often do. "I finished reading 'The Count of Monte Cristo' and I absolutely loved it. I believe that you will do. If you need any help with pronouncing certain words and/or figuring out their meanings, don't hesitate to ask me. I can leave you be for a bit or I can stay, it's fine either way." He smiles softly at me. "I'd love it if you stayed. I enjoy your company every minute of every day." I blush a little bit and sit down in a recliner near his bed. He picks up the book and begins to read it. Hours go by and he's still focused on reading. When it's dinner time, that's when he finally puts it down.  "Lefou, I managed to finish half of the book with very little difficulty so far. You're right, it's a great book! Let's go eat dinner though, I'm starving." He drags me down into the kitchen and I'm giddy the entire way there.

Over dinner, I break the news of Gaston's latest accomplishment. "Gaston has expressed interest in reading. With very little difficulty, he managed to read half of 'The Count of Monte Cristo'. I'm so proud of him. Aren't you all?" Everyone at the dinner table nods their heads. Belle is the most excited to hear this news. "Gaston, that's wonderful news! I happen to love that novel and would be honored to discuss it in its entirety with you and Lefou once you've finished reading it. We could have our own book club! Adam could even attend some sessions too." I chuckle. "It's funny that you said that Belle because I said the same thing to Gaston the other day. A book club would be a marvelous idea indeed!"

Belle squeals adorably. "That's splendid to hear! I look forward to it very much!" Adam nods in agreement. "Same here. Belle could use a couple of new friends in the castle. When I'm attending to royal matters within and outside of the castle, she can get lonely at times. This would be just as good for her as it would be for you two." Gaston is quite relaxed over dinner and he too seems thrilled about the prospects of a book club coming together very soon. Mood wise, I'm on cloud nine right now.
