Summary: Suggested by my best friend xx. 'Scene where they kiss in the rain and (Y/N) says "Promise me that this is forever".' Obviously I'll do stuff leading up to this, otherwise this'll be the shortest thing ever.

There was nothing better than taking an evening walk with your boyfriend, especially after a long day at work. Finally getting home on a Friday, you were greeted by Connor, who kissed your cheek and requested to spend time together. I mean, you couldn't complain, you adored his company and really just wanted him around. A certain group of assholes really pissed you off that day, so winding down with your boyfriend was the perfect relief.

He clasped one of your hands and led you outside. It was autumn in Detroit and the outdoor temperature was quite chilly. You really didn't mind as Connor let go of your hand, wrapped his arm around your waist and pulled you into his side. You snuggled in closer as fallen leaves crunched under both of your feet. You both walked in synchronisation, aimlessly, as Connor blabbered on about his recollection of the day. He demanded to be informed on your stressful Friday. You looked up at the now setting sun, desperately wanting to avoid this conversation altogether. You knew exactly what he was going to say and you really didn't want him to say it. He was only trying to protect you, but you didn't want him to worry. When he worried, he'd go to the extent of actually taking action, sometimes taking it too far. It was sweet and all, but you were too exhausted to let him make a minor issue into a major problem. You mumbled gibberish under your breath, being hardly audible to even Connor.

"Go on, tell me. It can't be that bad," he said, rubbing your side, comforting you. You sigh, knowing that he'd won.

"Do I have to?" you asked, still trying to fight for your right to privacy. Your conscience told you that you had no choice, yet you still wanted to deny it. In response to your pathetic question Connor gave you a familiar look. It was the typical 'are you really going to fight this?' look, the one he gives you when you both know he can't be beaten. You glance at him and groan out of annoyance. "Ugh, fine." You surrendered and Connor — you didn't know how it was possible — pulled you closer. You told him as much as you retained, causing you to tense up. You despise those idiots, they were so immature for their age. Why did they have to hassle you? There were so many other women in the office they could piss off, why did it have to be you of all people? Your teeth clenched, and your hands balled into fists as you spilled all that happened to your lover. Connor sent you as many signs of sympathy as he could muster, steering you towards an empty nature reserve. Once you had finished reeling off and relaxed a little, Connor transformed into a whole new person (ahem, sorry, android). Just when you thought he wouldn't say it, he did. He became the overprotective guardian, the man you really didn't want in that moment.

"Why didn't you stand up for yourself? You could have just reported them, that would have solved it. Do you want me to go over there Monday morning? I can deal with them for you." he suggested, meaning no harm but you knew when he raised his voice at literally anyone, he was terrifying. He could, if he truly desired to, crush a man's soul in half with at least one sentence. Salty tears stung your eyes, you didn't want this, not now. You ordered yourself to stop, you weren't going to cry. The tears defied you, trailing down your cheeks. You choked on the weak attempt to hide your sorrow.

Connor comes to a halt in the middle of the walkway and releases your body to face you. His brown eyes weren't sparkling as much as they usually did, this worried you but you were too busy crying to bother anymore. He placed his large hands on your shoulders and gave you an expression of concern.

"Is it something I said?" Something inside of you wanted to blame him for bringing this up in the first place, yet another told you to just hold him close and forget it all. Your vessel ignored both, you simply stood there looking at him through blurry eyes, trembling profusely. More tears trickled down, unable to stop them, overwhelming you. You felt your surroundings become darker, knowing it was already sundown or you were about to blackout. Your breathing became quick, short and sharp, in desperation to inhale air into your lungs. Connor stared at you, clueless for a second about what to do. He'd never seen you like this, most importantly, he'd never seen you weep. His hands were still on your shoulders and you felt as if they were beginning to weigh down on you. You drew in a long, unstable breath, while the waterfall continued. Connor took a moment, just to process how quickly your emotions changed. He made a simple decision and he pulled you in close once again.

His eyebrow twitched and he looked up to the sky, he had heard something or seen something as he held you there in the middle of the path. He glanced down at you, occupied with weeping your soul dry and he rubbed your back in sympathy. His attention switched back to the dark space above his head, he contemplated for a second and then instructed,

"It would be wise if we started to head home, it appears if it's about to—" he was cut short as the sky completed his sentence. You also look upwards, an easy mistake. Your surroundings were suddenly engulfed in rainfall. You paused your hysterical crying fit and began to weakly laugh. How much time did we spend out here? You thought to yourself, in the middle of being attacked with cloud's tears.

Connor detached himself from you again to run you to a sheltered area under a tree. You stood there both laughing at each other and with each other at the same time. Connor smiled at you softly, a beautiful curve carved his complexion. You grinned back, forgetting all the other events that day. Panting, you combed your (H/C) hair back. Your boyfriend approached you once more, using his thumb to wipe away your tears and rainwater from your face. You giggled as he did so, leaning into the palm of his fair hand. With his free arm, he curled it around your bodice, boring into your eyes.

The rain poured more, leaving you both unable to hear much else. Water ran down the leaves of the tree you were under and dripped onto your head, soaking the remaining dry patches of your hair. You laughed now, at Connor's last statement. You might as well answer, so you did.

"You think it'll be smart to go home now?" you joke, raising your voice above the constant rush of water. His lips quirked upwards for a second,

"If you wish," he said, draining rainwater from his dark brown hair. "It is starting to become a bit—" he searched for the right word, "intense." You chuckle at his choice of words. You take his arm from your body and lead him into the pouring rain once again. You stand there, trying to navigate your way back. You sigh, you could hardly see a thing out there. Connor, completely drenched, gazed at you, in a daydream. It was a short time between that and him pulling you into his body again to kiss you full on the lips. The sensation he gave you, changed your mood again. You felt warm inside, calm, happy to be in his company. Your lips parted with his and he stared at you, a smirk playing on his lips. You smile in reply. It was strange, you only realised then, how much you actually loved him, how much you needed him. He needed to pledge his undying loyalty to you and you hoped he would. You calmly demanded,

"Promise me, promise me that this is forever." You put your heart out on the line, praying it wouldn't be crushed. It wasn't the best way to explain what you desired but you were given a response regardless. Connor embraced you for about the hundredth time that day and gave his heart and soul to you, whispering in your ear,

"I will love you, with every breath you take, with every beat of my thirium pump. I promise I will love you as long as the earth keeps turning, I'll do everything in my power to keep you and keep you happy forever. (Y/N), I love you. You have to promise me you'll stay, the thought of losing you—" He put his life on that same wire, admitting something you never imagined. "Terrifies me." You nuzzled into his chest, not caring that you were both swallowed by the rain. He did love you. Your heart swam with a thousand feelings at once and your heart rate increased. You raise your head to look upon his face. Now you were the one to kiss him, drawing against his lips if nothing else mattered, as if it were the last moment of your life. You could feel your heart pounding hard in your chest, there was nothing else you wanted more. Official or not, Connor was yours, no matter what anyone said now. You broke away, sealing your oath to him and only him.

"I promise. Forever," you affirmed, taking his hand in yours and wandered off, heading towards home.
