The hard slap caused me to collapse and my head to slam against the marbled floor, violently. Black dots covered my vision as my surroundings appeared to slow down. With my eyes still connected with the person in the shadows my hands reached up to feel my stinging cheek, a warm liquid smudged all over my fingers.
I knew Mrs. Jeon's engagement ring had dug deep into my skin, tearing it apart.
The burnt-orange light flashed, reaching and partially lighting up every corner of the darkroom just like lightning momentarily lights up the leaden firmament. Still on the floor, I turned around to find Jungkook standing still with his hand on the switchboard. His eyes were emotionless, but I knew that the horrific image had covered his mind, he was seeing something his eyes won't ever be able to erase.
Words had left everyone.
After a minute of only silence, the sound of the sole of shoes coming in contact with the floor filled the air. My arms were gripped securely as I was pulled back on my wobbly legs, Mrs. Jeon's eagle-like eyes never leaving us. I staggered as Jungkook silently guided me somewhere, leaving Mrs. Jeon standing by herself in the tenebrosity.
"Wait." Mrs. Jeon's voice echoed throughout the deserted hallways.
Jungkook's footsteps came to a halt causing me to stop on my feet as well, he turned at Mrs. Jeon with arrogant orbs. I glanced at her, she was quite taken aback by her son's rock-hard stare.
"Let go of her." She hissed through gritted teeth, her eyes looking at me with abhorrence. But her words only causing Jungkook's hand to wrap around me firmly.
"Why should I? knowing that there is an abuser breathing in this house.?" Jungkook's jaw clenched as a mocking smile made its way up to his face. Mrs. Jeon's eyes dilated as she gasped, I looked at Jungkook with wide eyes as well but he didn't even seem to budge.
"Jeon Jungkook, you promised me that you'll stay away from her!" Mrs. Jeon hollered from the other corner of the room. I lowered at her sudden words. Jungkook looked rather mystified.
"Liar, we never exchanged any word like that." His eyebrows arched.
"You're the fucking liar here, you promised me that you'll never go near that whore!-"
"Enough!" I finally erupted, the last thing I wanted was Mrs. Jeon and Jungkook to be at each other's throats because of me but Mrs. Jeon crossed the line by judging me like that. Both the people present in the room looked at me, shocked.
"What have I ever done to you, why are you always against me." This time I screamed, at last asking the question I have been holding back for years.
"You think I'm bound to answer your question?" She looked at me with mockery.
"Yes, you have to!" Jungkook shouted, he himself being a witness.
"You have cast a spell on my son right, good job turning him against me." Mrs. Jeon chuckled, her hatred was blinding her. She was seeking revenge for something she didn't even know.
I was too overwhelmed by all the shouting.
"Please tell me why you despise me s-"
"No matter how far away you are, guess it's in your blood. You're just like your mother, a slut."
Mrs. Jeon's words forever lingered in the air. I became white as chalk. My eyes and mouth were frozen wide open. Her words were quite unbelievable, shocking really. Every part of me went on pause while my thoughts caught up. My mind was sent reeling, unable to comprehend or process.
