As I step out of my bed a shiver goes through me, making my teeth rattle. Wow, it's cold! Maybe the heat has broken again, it did that last winter and that was a horrible couple of weeks. I hope it doesn't take as long to fix it as last time.
I put on a pair of sweatpants and a warm hoodie before walking into the living room. I stop dead in my tracks as I look out the window. I see white fluff cover the ground. Snow? In October? Sure it's late October, but still.
I haven't prepared myself for this yet. The tree outside my window is white for now, but I know that as the day go, it will melt and fade away. London doesn't get that white coat of snow. I don't like the cold, but I do love the sight of snow, it's beautiful when it's white and all fairytale, it makes me miss home a little.
We had some pretty beautiful winters when I grew up. My dad used to take me to a lake a couple of miles away from our house and it's the most amazing place I've even been. We'd skate and make a little fire on the side of the frozen lake.
I sigh, holding myself to creating some heat and walk into the kitchen to put on a kettle to make some tea. I only have myself to blame for renting such an old, rundown place. Of course the heat won't work when it gets cold.
As the tea simmers I hear my phone ring from the bedroom.
"Hello?" I say into the phone as I pick it up from my nightstand.
"Hey, love!" Daniel answers on the other side, giving me a smile on my face.
"Hey, you! What's going on?" I ask, walking back into the kitchen to take the kettle away from the stove and pouring it into the cup I've prepared.
"You don't work until one right?" He ask, sounding very secretive. I frown. What has he gotten up his sleeve now?
"That's right. Why?" I ask, superstitious. Taking my cup with me and sitting down on the couch, pulling a blanket over my legs.
"I want to bring you someplace. I'll be there in an hour, alright?" He say and I can hear the smile in his voice, making it impossible to disagree.
"Where are we going?" I ask, it's eight in the morning.
"That's a secret. Dress warm though." He say and hang up. I look shocked at my phone. What is this? Where is he taking me? I drink my tea while pondering what's going to happen. Then I walk into my closet to try to find something that will keep me warm though still look nice. I decide on a pair of jeans and a big knitted cardigan, what will keep me warm. I put my messy hair up in a ponytail and a light layer of makeup. I put a white scarf around my neck and my black jacket on as I hear the doorbell ring at exactly nine o clock. He's prompt, I'll give him that. I go over to open the door and see a very joyous man in jeans, a grey jacket and a black beanie.
"Hi." He greets with a smile.
"Hey, I'll just get my shoes on and then I'm ready." I say and go over to the shoe rack to pick my boots up and pull them on. Then I stand up straight and walk over to the door and the waiting Daniel.
"Let's go!" I say and lock the door before we head out to his car. "So will you tell me now where we're going?" I ask, looking over at a smiling Daniel as he pulls out the car on the street.
"Nope!" He say, popping the p. I just shake my head and watch the road as he drives, listening to the music on the radio. We drive through areas where I haven't been, so I look at the houses, shops and streets. Seeing people walking to work, freezing in the cold air. It's warm here inside the car, so I pull my scarf off and open my jacket up. After a while the houses seems to reduce and there are more and more trees. After about forty five minutes Daniel stops the car beside the road and turn off the ignition. I look around us and see nothing but forest. I look over at Daniel with a wondering expression, what are we doing here?
