Penelope POV
Ash started doing something in the centre. She was doing something that looked like Devil Jin's Hellfire Blast or Inferno for Devil Kazuya. So I guess the word she got was Devil. I raised my hand and shouted the answer. She started pointing at me while nodding at Daniel. The guy in the Beetlejuice costume came to me and gave me a basket of treats too. Ash came back to her seat and guarded both of our basket of treats. I went over to the front and took a paper from the bowl. It said 'Fangs'. This is gonna be a little hard...
So I started to place my fingers in front of my mouth like fangs. Someone shouted 'vampire' but I shook my head. I pointed out the fingers I was holding in front of my face. Just then Janet shouted 'teeth' I nodded and gave her a sign, signalling that it's another word for it.
Janet thought for a moment and then shouted 'Fangs' and I nodded and Beetlejuice, or I guess Mathew, went to her and gave her a basket of treats too. I thankfully went back to my place next to Ash. She gave me my basket and then we decided to sneak out of the living room and have a look around the house.
We went into the dining room and looked around. There was a room adjoining there, and it was the study. Daniel's father was there, together with a strange guy in a trench coat! Ash and I looked at each other with wide eyes. They were talking to each other. We tried to eavesdrop.
"So is this okay?" we heard Daniel's father ask. "Or do you want a different design?"
"No I like this one fine," said trench coat. "Can you show me the fabric materials for it?"
"Oh sure," said Daniel's dad and took out what looked like a scrapbook. "These are all the materials that I have."
"Fabric materials?" asked Ash, in a low voice.
"I want this one," said trench coat, pointing to a floral design. "This one looks good. The sofa would match my living room with this design."
"Good choice," said Daniel's father. "I'll have it done for you. You see, this is my first indoor furniture request. I don't usually take these requests, but since you offered me a good amount, I'll do it. But now, I think I should start selling stuff like this too!"
"So that's what this was all about," said Ash under her breath, but loud enough for me to hear. "He's just making him a custom sofa?"
"Looks like it," I said. "Well that was lame..."
"Very lame..." said Ash. "Why did he overdo the fact that he just wanted to order furniture?"
"I have no idea," I said. "He made it seem like he was selling drugs or something..."
"Hey what are you two doing here?" asked a voice from behind us. "The party is in the living room."
We turned around to see a guy who looked kinda like Daniel, but older. He was wearing a Dr Who costume. I'm guessing it's Daniel's brother.
"We were just looking for the bathroom," said Ash. "Can you show me where it is?"
"It's right next to you," said Daniel's brother, pointing to our right. "That's the study, not the bathroom."
"Thanks," I said and we quickly went towards the bathroom. "We didn't know that..."
He went back to the living room and we sighed in relief.
"So you actually wanna go to the toilet?" asked Ash and I shook my head. "Let's just go back to the living room..."
We went to the living room and they were still playing charades. We sat on the sofa again and soon, the game was over. Everyone were holding a bag of treats, including us. After that, we started playing the killer game. So it turns out, Daniel and his family were innocent after all. The game was fun and the winners received Halloween treat jars which was mostly chocolates, and candy.
We played more games and now it was already nine. The party was ending.
"Now we'll give three people a special gift for the best costumes," said Daniel. "It was initially supposed to be two, but we've decided to give away three. Okay let me read out the names. Third place goes to... JAMES!"
James went up to the centre to receive the award. It was hard to tell that it was James because he was wearing a Slender Man costume. It kinda looked lame, but I guess it was okay because it was better than most of the costumes.
"Second place..." said Daniel, mysteriously. "Goes to our Batman girl!"
Ash smiled and ran to the centre to where Daniel was. He gave her a witch survival kit. It was basically a cauldron filled with stuff. EXPENSIVE stuff. Ash showed me her gift and inside it were some snacks, some expensive Halloween themed lip balms, and a few beauty products.
"Now for first place," said Daniel. "This person will receive an exclusive gift. This gift goes to... JOKER!"
Oh my gosh, that's me! I ran to the front and took the gift. I came back and sat with Ash. The gift was a slightly bigger cauldron filled with lots of stuff. There were lip balms, snacks, beauty products and... AIRBUDS! This guy must be crazy! He literally just gave me Airbuds for Halloween!
"Good job, Joker," said Ash. "See I told you we'll get awards!"
"You were right, Batman," I said. "But I didn't expect I would win first prize! Even more, I didn't expect I'd get Airbuds!"
"Congrats!" exclaimed Ash again, smiling. "Anyway, I think we should go home now."
The others were leaving too. Ash had already texted her mom to pick us up. We were leaving when suddenly Daniel stopped us.
"Who are you anyway?" asked Daniel. "Everyone that I invited came, and two extras. You're the extra two people. Who are you?"
"Joker," I said. "That's who I am."
"Yes and I'm Batman," said Ash. "We're not gonna break character."
"There's something familiar about the two of you," said Daniel thinking. "But I can't tell why. Do I know you? How did you get the invitations?"
"You gave us, duh," I lied. "Come on, Batman, lets go."
"That voice..." said Daniel, to my dismay. "You sound very familiar. And you, Batman, your eyes. I've seen those icy blue eyes somewhere..."
"Gotta go, bye!" said Ash and started running out, pulling me with her.
We got into her family car and her dad started driving away. Daniel rushed out and watched our car drive away.
"Phew that was close," said Ash with a sigh of relief. "He was definitely suspicious with us..."
"Did he catch you?" asked Ash's mom. "I saw him running after you."
"He didn't," said Ash. "But he almost did."
"Did you find out anything?" asked Ash's dad, Mr Reynolds. "Did you find anything to do with our case?"
"Yes we did," said Ash. "Turns out, the mystery trench coat guy was just a customer that requested a custom made sofa. He just went to see him to discuss about it..."
"Now that's lame..." said Mrs Reynolds. "That's very lame..."
"I know right," said Ash. "That's what we thought too..."
"So I guess it's case closed then," said Ash's dad. "You don't have to wear that ridiculous disguise anymore."
"No you shouldn't stop wearing the disguise just like that," said Ash's mom. "Reduce it gradually, but don't take off your contacts."
"Yes because you have the infamous icy glare that everyone fears," I said with a laugh. "I think you can stop the eye makeup for now."
"Yeah that's what I was thinking too," said Ash. "Look your house is here."
"Oh yeah," I said, grabbing my stuff. "Bye everyone!"
