Chapter 9
We pulled up to the mansion. I could tell Grace was genuinely surprised. She pulled me aside.
“Wow Rey, you’re friend is rich. No wonder you hang around him!” I scoffed in disgust. This is my friend right?
“Grace? How could you be so shallow? I not here for money! Jordan’s been like a brother to me. He’s my best friend. I love you Gracie, but he was there to pick up the pieces when I fell apart. He helped a complete stranger in more ways than one. We’re family now. Nothing can tear us apart.” I smiled so she could understand I meant it. But I’m starting to think of that as an understatement. We aren’t best friends, we aren’t brother and sister, we’re even closer. I’d like to deny it, but I’m starting to develop feelings I shouldn’t for Jordan.
She looked offended. She should be. “I was only joking Rey.” I sighed.
“I know. I’m sorry Grace. But I’m touchy about that. If something were to happen that meant me never seeing Jordan again, I think I’d die. We’re closer than possible. You know. We genuinely care for each other and it hurts to see the other in pain. He’s my best friend and if I lost him, I’m afraid I would lose myself. Like Tyler.” That stung but I hid it to the best of my abilities. “Only worse. Imagine that. Grace, I can’t lose him.”
“I never said you would.” She said softly “Don’t worry, I can see that. You guys can survive through fire and wind, you’re strong. You may not be mates, but you need each other in your lives” I nodded. Her words were very true. I turned and walked to the front door. I heard her follow me. In the doorway I turned and saw she was standing at the end of the driveway.
“Come On Grace!” I yelled waving her forward. She lifted her foot but it stopped in the air mid-step, like it was being restricted. Her eyes widened like she just understood what happened. I walked over and she said,
“I can’t come in. Pack house.” Pack house? I’ve heard of it and have an idea of the concept. I am a bookworm so I’ve read that in books involving werewolves. Both in print and on Wattpad.com. I guess I understand now why Jordan never read them. They were insulting compared to the real thing.
But pack house? This is Jordan’s house, not a pack house. We’re the only one’s here besides the occasional visitor like Alex and Liam or Marco. Marco is Jordan’s best friend. Besides me of course, but I can’t do all of the stupid stuff guys like to do so that’s where Marco comes in. I prefer not smashing fruit with a baseball bat… Or playing sports. The only sports I’m good at are volleyball and soccer. Sometimes we have little soccer matches but it’s not often. They often prefer to toss a football or shoot some hoops. I used to join them every now and then, but they’re too fast…Wait a minute. Hey!
Damn wolf speed!
I’ll bet my car that Marco’s one too. Great, another secret they kept from me. How have I been so oblivious all these years?!
But it still doesn’t explain why she can’t come in. I tried grabbing her hand pulling her through. I went through with ease but she was stuck like a glass wall kept her there.
