I had severely underestimated how long two weeks really was. That's 14 days. 336 hours. 20160 minutes. 1209600 seconds of sad bar regulars, a judgemental mother, and a graveling boss that, combined, equaled pure torture. The only time I got some peace was babysitting and most of the time it was spent multitasking by talking on the phone with Sam and making sure Olly didn't break something.
I got a hell of a lot more hours at the bar as a sort of farewell gift and Dale and Ethan wouldn't stop teasing me whenever my phone would light up with a text from Sam, which was quite often. They were 100% sure Sam had asked me to marry him and they wouldn't take no for an answer.
When the two weeks were finally up I had accumulated a HUGE parting paycheck and all my stuff had been packed and stacked by the door.
Olly Sat waiting on the porch for the Impala to drive up while Joy pestered me about holiday get togethers and stuff like that.
When the boys finally did appear at the end of the road, Olly ran into the house and jumped up onto my lap and started crying, "They're not here! No big black cars outside!"
We were confused at first until we heard the sound of the engine over his sad little tears.
"They just showed up though." I pointed out thinking he was upset that the boys weren't here yet.
"No they're not here. You are going to stay!" Olly cried and held onto my neck with all his little strength.
Joy held back a giggle as I grinned and hugged him back, "Olly I'm only going to be 4 hours away!" I soothed, rubbing his back.
"But that's too far away to cuddle!" Olly wailed as Sam knocked on the door.
We got up, Olly still clinging to my chest, and answered the door, "well Sammy, we might have to take Olly with us!" I said with a wink and turning so the boys could see Olly was upset.
"Uh... Oh! Yeah! Sure!" Sam agreed after taking a moment to catch my drift.
"I'm sure he'd love it!" Dean piped up grabbing a box and hauling it to the Impala.
"Oh yeah! It's completely underground and there's a bunch of hallways and tunnles to get lost in. Could be fun for a little boy!" Joy added patting his back as his tears slowed.
"Like the Bat Cave?" Olly asked still refusing to loosen his grip on me. I stepped out of the house and sort of bounced to the car as if I was taking him with me.
"Yup except older, you will know what I mean when you smell it, and you can't get outside as easily because the garage is underground and there's only one other door. Most of the time we just sit and hang out in the library." I informed him.
"Yup there's lots of books, I don't know if there's any on trains though...." Sam added as he set another box in the trunk.
Olly began to wiggle as he let go of my shoulders and I half dropped him half set him down so he could waddle back to Joy.
"Are you sure you don't want to go with her?" I heard Joy ask over Sam's chuckles.
He wrapped his arms around me from behind and kissed my cheek, "That was pretty smart there Sunshine." He muttered, smiling and causing his rough stubble to rub against my cheek.
"I said kids were a bad idea, not that I wasn't good with them." I pointed out making him chuckle again and place another kiss on my cheek before letting go to grab the last box.
Walking back to the porch I was attacked in a bear hug by Joy, "Call at least every other week okay? And come over for holidays? Or maybe we can do something over there? Don't just disappear like last time." She begged.
"Of course!" I exclaimed, "I'm not under lock and manipulative key this time. I'm not going too far." I reassured her.
"If anyone's doing any manipulating its her anyways." Dean teased as he corralled Olly back towards the house.
We all laughed and said our goodbyes quickly before there was another outburst from Olly, promising to call regularly so she knew we weren't all dead. Swinging into the backseat I let out a sigh of contentment as the metaphorical holes that had been dug over my absence were being filled back up.
"Alright boys." I began, scooting into the center of the seat and leaning forward, "It's story time for Evelynn. What happened while I was gone?"
The uncomfortable silence was cut by the engine revving to life but no one said a word as Dean began the drive home.
"Guys?" I asked as we rounded a corner out of view of the house, "You're making me nervous..."
Sam sighed and shifted in his seat to face me with what looked almost like shame written across his face, "A lot."
I sat back and crossed my arms, giving him a 'go on then' face and waited for one of them to continue.
"About two months after you bailed we had a.... lets call it a run in, with Metatron." Dean began slowly.
"Okay? Did you kill him this time?" I asked with a little more disdain than was probably necessary.
"No." Dean so kindly informed me without expanding on his point.
"Well what happened?" I pried as I took a swig from my water bottle. I was really not into this whole 'lets not tell Evelynn' thing.
"He killed Dean." Sam explained further.
I nearly choked coughing up the water I inhaled when he spoke, "I'm sorry what?"
"Metatron stabbed me and me dying completed what the mark was trying to do. I turned into a demon." Dean explained.
I can never leave these two alone again. Dear God!
"So you're.... what? Demon Dean that acts like human Dean?" I asked getting a little apprehensive about what I was jumping back into.
This might be a bigger mess than when I left.
"No. Cas and I cured him." Sam reassured with a smile that looked more like a grimace.
"And just how long were you running around as a demonic killing machine?" I asked, not even really that surprised at the news anymore, "Don't tell me you weren't either because I know you could do some serious damage."
"About six weeks...." He confessed.
"And you still called?"
"Called?" Sam asked, "Called who?"
"Me!" I answered, thinking this was common knowledge and Sam had just had one of his rare but amusing blonde moments. The look on his face quickly corrected my assumptions.
"You called her and didn't tell me?" Sam questioned Dean letting his volume rise a little bit above normal.
Yup, just like the good ole days....
This genera of conversation continued for a good two and a half hours before we stopped for gas.
I had gathered, rather extracted, from the boys all about the adventures of demon Dean and desperate Sam as well as a few demon-y run ins following the incident. It was plenty to mull over as the boys went into the store to grab us some dinner.
Dean nearly scared me to death when he slid in the passenger seat, seeing as I was in the driver's seat waiting for the pump to shut off.
"Gettin a little jumpy are we?" Dean asked. His tone was slightly off, but I figured that had something to do with having just gotten in an argument with Sam.
"I was thinking." I snapped with less venom than intended, "So you guys get anything good?" I asked looking around the floorboards by him for my food.
"I had to take a leak. No idea what Sammy's got." Dean grinned. His demeanor changed and he scooted closer to me with his arm resting on the back of the seats, "You know what Evelynn?" he asked.
I gave him a look but he didn't continue, "Alright, I'll bite. What don't I know?" I asked.
"You're beautiful." He stated, giving me a sneaky smile.
"Uh... Thanks?" I stumbled over my words for a little bit.
This is only a LOT out of character.
"Like, really beautiful. I don't know how Sammy landed you. A big ole' nasty hunter like him, especially the guy who jumpstarted judgement day... blows my mind." He continued as he scooted closer licking his lips and eyeing mine.
"Uh... We both know you technically started the apocalypse... it was a joint effort." I squirmed uncomfortably as he shifted closer to a point where I was getting nervous. "Dean? What are you doing?" I asked staying as still as possible.
"Well you kiss Sam enough I figured you would know when someone was leaning in for one." He smirked, scooting even closer and resting his arm across my shoulders.
The gas nozzle jiggled signalling it was done pumping at the perfect, life saving moment and I hauled myself out of the car to replace the nozzle back in it's home. I was about to get into the backseat when I saw Sam and Dean in the store window.
But Dean is right here...
I looked back and forth between the Deans for a moment and decided to play it off cool until they got back. Whatever this was wasn't planning on immediate harm or else it would have a long time ago.
"May we resume?" Not Dean asked, inching so close to me that our legs were brushing against each other.
"One question," I risked a glance towards the store and saw Sam and Dean walking at a leisurely pace towards the car, "Why the sudden interest?" I asked leaning down to scratch my calf and pull a knife out of my boot.
"Who said it was sudden?" He countered replacing his arm on my shoulders as I sat back up.
I could hear the boys jogging to the car followed by Sam yelling my name in a tone that I had previously only heard him use for Dean.
"Shit...." Not Dean spat before slamming his lips to mine in a quick, forced kiss as one Winchester took each side of the car, guns out.
I punched him in the face and rolled out of the car and onto the ground at Sam's feet.
"What the hell?!" Sam asked, anger shadowing his surprise and confusion.
"Not now! Shoot him!" I yelled.
Sam raised his gun but his face, previously covered in determination, changed to confusion and fear.
