I couldn't breathe. All of my conscious thoughts, the air in my lungs, had gone. I stared in horror as she fell. I gaped at my hands, terrified of what else they could do.
Tears fell from my eyes, but I didn't feel them.
I ran to her. I wrapped her in my arms, shaking her, rocking her, trying to get her eyes to open. I needed to see her eyes.
I rocked for so long. I couldn't keep track of time. Some of my tears fell onto her, rolling off her neck.
It was then that she opened her eyes. I could see her eyes.
