A/N this is a father figure one.
Deano- Bondi Father
Background: My parents died in a shark incident but for some reason it drew me closer to the ocean. I have lived in Australia all my life and have been in and out of foster homes for the past 5 years. I am a 10 year old surfer, wishing for a better life.Present: I am sat on Bondi waiting for my foster parents to come back. They said they were just going to get fish and chips. I don't have a watch and they took away my phone because I was 'more interested in surfing then them.' I have been sat looking out to sea for what felt like hours, and the sun was staring to set. All I have is the clothes, swimmers, wetsuit and thongs I am wearing. I decide to go out for a surf to pass some time, pulling off my best aerials and other tricks, just having fun.
I didn't realise, but a crowd of men wearing light blue rashies, had gathered to watch me. I come in to a round of applause, I brush it off and walk to my gear. Before I could reach it I am stopped by one of the men clapping me "hiya, I'm Dean but the guys back there call me Deano. We were wondering where your parents are. Could you please show us?"
What am I supposed to say to this man I just met. 'Oh hi my names Y/N and my parents are in heaven and have been for 5 years nice to meet ya' that just sounds weird so I say "hi, my names Y/N, nice to meet ya Deano."
He has a happy look on his face. Probably because I didn't ignore him. He looks around then his happy face goes to a concerned one. "Well Y/N it's very nice to meet you too. But please answer my question. Where are your parents? There is no one here but us."
I panic, not knowing what to say and try to run, but they surround me with concerned looks. "Hey darl it's ok we just want to help you. I'm Harries by the way and we are all lifeguards." He has a comforting voice but it did nothing, I don't try to run any more but don't answer their question.
They decide it's best to take me to the tower where I will be warmer. After an awkward buggy ride to the tower I finally talk again. "Ok so let me get this straight. You expect me to tell some random people I just met all about myself?"
They nodded "you can trust us Y/N don't worry." Harries says in his usual comforting voice.
"Well if I can trust you, I guess I should start from the beginning. I was born in Melbourne but raised here. I grew up surfing the Bronte waves, with my parents, that was until the incident." I shuddered just thinking about it. Deano encourages me to go on "well when I was 5 my mum, Y/M/N (your mums name) and my dad, Y/D/N (your dads name) were both killed in a shark attack. I was lucky just to get away with this." I lift up my wetsuit sleeve to reveal a scar going from my wrist to my elbow. All the boys shudder and wince in sympathetic pain.
"How are you still going in the water after that A, you lost your parents and B, that scar is gnarly he had a good chomp at you too." I believe that is Reidy as I have seen small snippets of Bondi Rescue before, when I had seen my foster parents watching it. After explaining how I was put into foster care and all the abusive families I had after, the boss who I learn is called Hoppo decides it's best to call social services. I really don't want to go back there and want to stay with these guys. I have not known them that long but I haven't felt so loved since I lost my parents.
I grip onto Deano and he suggests something I would only ever dream. "How about I take her in, I'm sure Lily would be fine with it, plus Lucy and Gus would love the company." I love this idea so much a small smile creeps on my face "I'll take that as a yes then Y/N." I nod, my smile growing even bigger.
A few months later: Its official I am now Y/N Gladstone, Deano refuses to answer to me unless I call him dad which I find quite cute. I have grown to love all the lifeguards, I even go and sit in the tower with them when 'dad' is working. When some of them are off they take me surfing. Apart from 'dad', I really get along well with Maxi and Jesse, probably because they are still children at heart. My birthday is next week and I have asked for a new surfboard with 'Y/N Gladstone' painted on it, as I know I will be part of this family for the rest of my life. This made Deano very happy and I really do think of Lily and him as Mum and Dad.
