Hey, it's taken a while for me to write this (nearly 2 months, guess I'm turning into Max and Harvey 😂 if you get that joke I love you!) cause I went back to school, I hope you enjoy it :) (also Y/N is now using they/them pronouns so anyone can read) TW for this chapter by the way

Ben Buckler

Y/n's POV
I sat past the breakers on my board, wondering what would have happened if Dylan hadn't found me that day. How would my family be now? Would they be happy? Sad? Numb? I don't know how they'd feel, but I know I'm very happy that Dylan did find me. I probably would have followed through if Dylan didn't come when he did.

I sat, staring at Ben Buckler, just 2 years ago I was I was at the top, looking down to where I am now.

*flashback*
I was stood at the top of Ben Buckler's point, ready to jump, but secretly hoping someone would stop me. "Hey!" Someone shouted. "Hey, please move away from the edge! Come to me, please."

I wanted to go to them, I really did, but my brain was telling me they wouldn't care, that they would just laugh at me, my brain was telling me to jump. "I can't!" I shouted back to them.

"It's ok, just take your time." The voice said calmly. "If you come to me, you'll be safe, I'm a lifeguard."

"O-ok" I said and tried to walk to them, but failed.

"Can I come closer?" They asked me.

"Y-yes." I stutter.

"Thank you." They said and slowly walked towards me. "I'm Dylan by the way."

"I'm y/n." I said, not looking Dylan in the eyes, and instead looking at the ground.

"Y/n's a beautiful name." Dylan said.

"Thank you." I muttered, becoming slightly more comfortable with Dylan.

"We can stay here as long as you like and then we can go back." He said calmly, I just nodded. It started to set in what I was going to do before he stopped me, I was about to leave all my family, I was about to make Dylan feel like he could have done something but he was too late. "Hey, you're ok, you're safe." Dylan said, as I realised I was crying. "Can I come closer?" He asked, I nodded and he stepped closer to me and gently hugged me. That was a hug I didn't know I needed, I collapsed into his arms, he came down with me making sure I didn't hurt myself. He sat with me as I silently sobbed. "Do you want to go back to the tower? It's getting really hot now the clouds have moved."

"Yeah." I whispered, struggling to get my words out. I tried to stand up but my legs wouldn't let me. Dylan's good up and held my hands and helped me stand up, he lifted my arm over his shoulders and helped me steady myself. "Thank you." I muttered.

"No problem, now let's go." He said and we slowly walked to the tower.

"Hey Dylan, you were gone a while. Who's this?" Someone asked.

"This is y/n, they're just going to chill in here with me for a while." Dylan said not actually telling them why I was here, which I'm glad about.

"Nice to meet you y/n, I'm Rod, but you can call me Kerrbox, or Box." 'Box' said.

"It's nice to meet you." I said, smiling slightly, it seems like people actually care about me.

"Whilst you chill here, is there anyone we can call, just so they know you're safe?" Dylan asked.

"My mum." I said.

"Ok, what's her number?" Dylan asked and I told him, and he rung her. "G'day." He said as I'm guessing my mum answered. "Is this y/n's mum?" He asked. "It's lovely to meet you, I'm Dylan Davis, from the Bondi Lifeguards. I'm ringing to let you know y/n is here in the tower with me, they're safe. They're going to stay here with me for the day, I'll make sure they get home safe." He said, looking at me and smiling, I smiled back, a genuine smile for the first time in years. "Thank you, I hope you have a wonderful day too."
*flashback over*

"Hey y/n!" Dylan shouted paddling over to me. "You gonna catch a wave of not?" He laughed.

"Yeah go on then, race you!" I laughed waiting for the best wave I could find. I caught the wave and it barrelled over!

"Woah y/n that was the wave of the day!" Box said. "Kinda wish I got that one." He laughed.

"Sucks to be you working." I giggled. Since the incident 2 years ago I've gotten the closest with Dylan and Box, I'm friends with all the lifeguards.

"That was incredible y/n!" Dylan cheered coming in on the wave after mine.

"Thanks!" I hugged him. "I'm glad you found me 2 years ago." I said.

"I'm glad I did too, I saw you looking at Ben Buckler, that's why I didn't start a conversation just said race you." He said.

"You knew it was going to hit me soon didn't you?" I asked and he nodded in the hug, I just hugged him tighter.

A/n the flashback was heavy to write, and I'll probably never write one like this again but it was interesting to try and write it.
