Your POV
I had been deployed for 6 months, I was in Afghanistan. I hadn't been able to see my brother and best friend Liam, or Itchy as he is known at his work, for the whole 6 months, it was so hard not to be able to see him. The week before, I found out that my mission was being shortened, I wasn't supposed to be coming home for another 6 months so Liam wasn't expecting me home. The best thing was, I was arriving back home a day before his birthday. This meant I could sleep off by jet lag, then go to the beach to surprise him.

The day had finally come, I was going back home. I had been messaging Liams boss, Bruce, he was going to pick me up from the airport and I was going to sleep at his house. Bruce has a daughter but she was on a school residential so I could stay in her room.

The flight felt like it took forever, but I'm sure it wasn't that long. When it finally landed I got off as quick as possible and waited for my bag to arrive. When it finally arrived I ran out to find Bruce, I saw him stood with a massive sign saying 'Y/N' it was simple but luckily I was the only one in my troop with my name. "Hey Hoppo!" I shouted

"Hey Y/N! Itchy is going to be so excited, I told him Lauren was coming home early, so he has no idea you're coming early." He said and I high-fived him.

"He's going to be so happy! I have it all planned out. I'm going to call him in the morning wishing him a happy birthday, then at lunch I'm going to turn up at the tower or wherever he is." I said and Hoppo nodded grinning.

"Anyway let's go, you'll need to sleep off your jet lag." He said laughing.

We headed off to Hoppo's house, he lead me to Lauren's room, it was all pink and girly, 'definitely not my style' I thought to myself, it was only for that night, so it didn't matter. I usually stayed with Itchy, because I moved around a lot, it was just easier.

I got to sleep really quickly and when I woke up it was Itchy's birthday! I called him instantly and he picked up instantly "happy birthday little bro, I'm sorry I can't be with you but I did send a present, it should be arriving later today." I said.

"Thanks Y/N, I wish you were here celebrating with me, but unfortunately you are in Afghanistan. I can't wait to see the present, you always get the best gifts, I doubt you can outdo yourself from last year. That PlayStation was awesome, the guys loved it too! Anyway, you probably need to go, I don't want you too, but see you in six months."

"See you in six months, love you." It was so hard to keep my laughter contained. I was his special present, it was so hard not to tell him though.

It had been a few hours and I was getting changed into my army uniform to surprise him, then there was a knock at the door, I was just putting my hat on then I was ready. "Come in." I shouted so I could be heard through the door, the door opened and Stacey stood there.

"Are you ready?" She asked and I nodded trying to contain my excitement.

After a short drive we arrived at Bondi, I went in the tower to see all the guys there and see where Itchy was. "Hey guys." I said nonchalantly.

"Y/N!" They all shouted as they spun around.

"Where's Itchy? Also Maxi you have grown up in 6 months, where's that curly head of hair gone?"

"First of all Itchy is at south end, I was about to switch with him so I'll drive you down and secondly I got a hair cut, I'm still the same as before you left." Maxi said, I thanked him and we went down to the south end. Itchy was in doing a rescue so we had to wait, when he came back in, I was hid behind Maxi, it was quite easy when he was, and still is, a head taller than me.

"Happy birthday baby bro!" I said when he'd be able to hear me.

"Y/N!" He shouted and tacked me to the ground. "I've missed you."

"I've missed you too. Do you want to know a secret?" I asked, he just nodded onto my shoulder and I could feel warm tears seeping through my uniform. "You will never have to miss me again!"

"Wait what?" He was really confused.

"I told the Sargent, it was too hard being away from everyone I loved, I no longer work for the army, I'm home for good!" I exclaimed and felt Itchy sob more and hug me tighter. "Is this the best present ever? Also do you want to go to the tower?"

"Yes and yes, but I don't want to let you go, I feel like I'm dreaming and if I let go I'll wake up and you won't be here." He cried.

"Liam, I'm here for good, ok? You are not dreaming, I'll even get Maxi to slap you if you don't believe me." I said trying to soothe him.

"I will slap you!" Maxi shouted too excited.

"I believe you, I promise. Please don't let Maxi slap me." He laughed.

This was 15 years ago, I have kept my promise and I've never wore my uniform since. Maxi still isn't happy because he never got to slap Itchy, but I know he will at some point
