~(Y/N)~

It was time to go, we were to get going to Ehrmich District, from there a hand full of the scouts would go over the wall. But no one knew where Erwin was, so I decided to go looking for him. Walking down the dark hall in search for the tall blonde, coming to the door that served as his office, I stop and knock on it.

I waited for some time before knocking again. And immediately after I hear a soft 'go away'. He must've heard about Mike... With a soft sigh, I twist the knob and slowly enter his office. Surprisingly it wasn't dark like I assumed it would be if he wanted to be alone.

Looking across the room I find him looking out the window. "Erwin...it's time to go-"

"I'll be there soon...I just...I need a moment." he says softly. Walking up to him I look out finding he was watching the other cadets get ready to leave. Gently I rest my hand on the center of his back and at the moment I watch his broad shoulder slump.

"I just can't seem to catch a break," he mumbles.

Rubbing circles in his back I listen silently knowing any moment he'd start venting. Turning towards me he then leans against the wall before sliding down against it until he sat on the floor. Kneeling beside him I rest my hand on top of his. "Mike is dead...and I'm sure most of the others are probably dead too...I should've sent them with gear," he mumbles.

"You didn't know this would happen-"

"I should've been prepared though..." he stops and sighs as he turns his head away from me. I knew he was exhausted, and I didn't want to remind him that we still needed to go. Then there was a knock at the door. Looking back I sigh then turn to look at Erwin again.

"Stay here, they can wait for all I care," I whisper.

Rising to my feet again I look down at his dark face. He didn't move or make any sort of nod..turning away I head to the door. Opening it once again I find Captain Levi standing on the other side. "Where is Erwin?" he asks.

"He needs more time...he's not doing too well right now," I whisper.

Levi sighs before nodding. "We don't have enough time...but I will let the others know," he mutters. I nod and thank him before shutting the door, quickly I return to Erwin's side and sit beside him now.

"That was Levi, he's going to give us more time...until you're ready," I whisper. Erwin nods as his eyes continue to stare at the floor. Pivoting slightly I take his large hand into mine and allow our fingers to intertwine. Resting his hand in my lap, I hear him sigh.

"It just seems no matter how close we get to reaching that basement...something has to stand in the way," he mutters. "I can only do so much," he whispers.

Resting my head on his shoulder my thumb runs along the back of his hand gently. "I know...and you don't need to take it all on by yourself...you may be commander but that doesn't mean you have to take it all on by yourself," I whisper.

He sighs and nods slowly. It wasn't just the fact that he had lost comrades and was frustrated with having a new threat. But just days ago people were harassing him on the way back from the 57th expedition. Questioning if all the deaths were worth it, or calling him heartless for leading those new recruits straight into hell. He was not only physically drained but emotionally.

His hand squeezes mine gently before turning his head in to kiss the side of my forehead. "The only thing that feels right...is you being by my side," he mutters. I smile gently at his words.

"Then that's where I'll stay," I whisper.

Turning my head I look up at him, he had already been looking down at me. Slowly he leans down and pecks me on the mouth gently. Untangling my hand with his I rest it on his face. Once he breaks away he kisses the side of my head once again. "Thank you," he whispers.

I nod and continue to smile. "You're welcome," I mutter.

After a few more minutes of sitting on the floor. He was finally ready to go, although I knew things still plagued his mind, at least he knew I would always be there to comfort him. With his large hand in mine, I led him to the door. I remained by his side until he got on his horse and led the remaining scouts to Ehrmich District.
