"So, last night... you and Jasmine" Lily asked slyly. My heart jumped at not only the thought of my magical night, but at her noticing us.
"What do you mean?" I try to play it off.
"CJ, it's okay if you are with her you know? She is super nice and fun."
I respond quickly, "No! no. We are not together."
"Okay, but you two were dancing awfully close. Do you like her?"
I paused. Thinking hard about it. Though I had admitted to having some strong feelings for Jasmine, I had not yet said the words 'yes, I like her.'
I guess now I am.
"Yeah, I think I do." I say blushing.
Knowing Lily I expected some sort of pig-like squeal to escape her lips.
But she said... nothing?
"I am happy for you, really. And like I said, Jas is cool. She is intense though, a little mischievous? Just be careful please."
I felt conflicted by her comment.
"Mischievous how? Do you know about something that I don't?"
She dodged the question.
"Please." Her eyes pleaded for me to agree.
She then continued, "But eep this is so exciting!"
It is as if a switch went off in her head and suddenly she was ecstatic. Lily's excitement was always amusing to see.
Jasmine was off today, so we were talking about everything pretty openly. I told her about our initial interactions, the gym, our park stroll, and how she tends to pick me up every single shift even on her off days.
"It sounds like she likes you too CJ! You have her number right?"
"I really don't think she does, and...oh, no I don't."
I had just now realized that in all our interactions, I have not gotten Jasmine's number yet.
As if she detected it, into the backroom enters Jasmine.
"Ladies, how are we doing today?" She says in an oddly relaxed and not at all flirtatious tone.
"Jasmine! I was just telling CJ how weird it is that you don't have each other's numbers still."
I turn to my left slightly where Lily stood, giving her a subtle glare.
"Damn, you're right. Here."
Jas says giving me her phone. She is acting weird today, too calm and...normal?
"What are you doing here, I thought you were off?" I asked.
"I forgot my hoodie in my locker." Jas said walking away from us and towards the lockers.
Upon returning she asked me, "Do you need a ride, I'm heading that direction anyway."
I guess I am still not used to Jas showing up to every one of my shifts, to take me home. Does it mean something?
Lily nudged me from behind.
"Oh, umm sure if you don't mind." I responded.
"Of course not, let's go new girl." She smiled at me.
I say a quick bye to Lily before following her outside to the vehicle. Except this time I was not met with an electric blue motorcycle. Instead, an old forest green Honda accord.
