I heard a knock on our door. I lift my head up and see Cat sleeping sound beside me.

knock knock

There it is again. It's a loud knock too. I look through the peep hole to see two officers standing there. I quickly open the door in a panic.

"Are you Clarissa Jamie O'Leary?" The officer asked.

"Yes, what can I help you with?"

"You are under arrest for child abduction across state borders." The officer said as they both approached me, cuffing my hands.

"No this is a mistake, I didn't kidnap anyone!" I hastily let out.

The officer then pointed behind me.

"Then who is that?" I turn to see them pointing at Cat sleeping.

"She's my sister."

"Yes, Catherine Jane O'Leary. Who is 17 years old, a minor, and reported kidnapped from the custody of her parents."

My stomach dropped.

They actually did it. My parents went after us, even risking my father getting charged for domestic violence?

The officers began to pull me away. Oddly enough, Cat remained asleep. We made it outside the building, it was dark, the only visible light from the cop cars.

That's when I saw them standing there, shaking their heads. My parents.

"No please, it was for good reason. That man has been abusing us all our lives, please understand!"

"Those are some strong accusations young lady." The officer replied.

"Please, its true. He hurts my mother too, tell him!" I yelled towards my mother standing next to my father.

"I don't know what you're talking about. I'm in a happy, loving marriage. Don't try and cover up your mistake by falsely accusing others, especially your kind father." She deadpanned, not an ounce of emotion in her tone.

I stutter unable to prove myself, growing desperate as we reach the vehicle.

"No! You're lying, she's lying. He abuses us all and never once did he show me any love let alone kindness!"

With that, my head was being shoved into the car.

I look out the window and see my parents standing with smirks on their faces, Cat now standing with them too. My father has his hand grasping tightly at Cat's wrist, she begins to cry.

"No no! Let me go I need to protect her! Please!" I yell, wiggling violently in my seat, shoving my shoulder against the car door.

"I suggest you settle down. There's no way out of this."

The officer paused then chuckled.

"A man like your father is too powerful to be found guilty. Not to mention when it's only your word against both of theirs."

Both officers began to laugh and I felt my heart clench.

This can't be happening, my mother seemed so honest and vulnerable the day of Cat's graduation. I believed her, I actually kind of trusted her. I'm an idiot.
