I grinned as I mixed the onions and garlic in the pan of oil, I couldhear the steady sound of Kohmus behind me cutting up the tomatoes forme for the dish. I Was just moving onto the next step, the pasta intothe boiling water when I felt a sudden shiver. Instantly somethinghad called out to me and I turned to look over to see Kohmus alsolooking around. I then saw in the corner that looked at and it lookedstrangely darker than it normally was.
My first thought was that a light bulb was getting close to going outwhen I noticed that their was more shadows coming as if slithering tothe form slowly coming as it solidified into the form of a woman andeven more, the first thing I saw was dark eyes that were back litblack eyes, her hair was a deep dark that fell to about the middle ofher back, she had a symbol of the home on her head, in one hand shewas holding an ankah and the other held a rod. She wore a white dressmade of linen bright against her olive tone.
"Mother." Kohmus smiled moving to hug the woman before turning tome and grinning leading her to me with a easy hand on her back."Name, this is-"
"Maut! (Mother-in-law!)" I called out and without thinking Iwrapped my arms around her. She felt cold, not as cold as Iremembered her being. If I hadn't known she was the goddess of death, the 'death experience' while her twin Isis was the 'birthexperience'. I know if I was with her during the day that it feltnice to be around her since she kept me from overheating while atnight time I couldn't be near her unless their was a fire nearby. Italways was nice as it was almost the perfect temperature between theburning of the fire and the radiating cold from her.
But now...now she felt like a mortal who just ran cold, normally fromeither bad circulation or it was just a natural thing for them assome run cold like others run hot. She had frozen at first but beforeI could pull away she wrapped her arms around me giving me themotherly hug and I couldn't help but grin at that giving her asqueeze before pulling away.
"You remember me?" She asked and I nodded.
"Of course, how could I ever forget my darling mother-in-law?" Ismiled at her taking Kohmus's offered hand.
"I came to check up on the two of you." She explained and Igrinned at her remembering when she came to visit us.
"Can you stay for dinner mother?" I offered and she looked at meshocked, we always would offer it to her and sometimes she could stayand have dinner with us, sometimes she was too busy and could onlystay for a few moments. She loved once we started having children toplay with the children, allowing them to chase about her shadows orhold them as the cooed on her hip as I prepared dinner and Kohmus didsome work to either finish up paperwork from the day before or get ajump start on the next day.
"I think I could, my beloved one may be happy, ever since tellingher about Kohmus she has been eager to hear about him, especiallyknowing he woke up." She said and I couldn't help but grin.
"Maut, (Mother-in-law,)" I drew the word out grinning at her,"you've found love?" I grinned at her and she gave a chuckle andI grinned back. "So two plates? There is more than enough food ifyou want to bring anyone else." I promised and she gave a giggle. Agiggle she usually reserved for Kohmus and I's children.
I could see her eyes soften and the soft smile she gave. This womanwho was her beloved was special. I wondered what goddess it was?"That sounds good. Thank you Nerfert...Name." She correctedherself before grinning at me, "I think she will be happy to, I'llbe right back." She slipped away and Kohmus and I headed over tothe stove and counter.
The meal was almost done and I smiled as Kohmus was done with thetomatoes. I threw them into the same pot along with some oregano."Kohmus can you watch the pan for me? Just stir it occasionally."I explained having began teaching him more and more over time sincehe was starting to take more and more in since he had taken towanting to make breakfast for me and pack lunch when I had work. Iloved to cook so still made dinner every night and on days I had offwe made all three meals together, but I was more than happy to get tosleep almost an hour more every day. Really he spoiled me.
