Chapter 23: It's Not Like That!

= Haruhi's POV =

"Where did he park?" Ken-kun asked.

"At the parking lot on the next block." I answered.

As we were walking, I felt some presence a few steps ahead.

"Wait." I whispered to Ken-kun. "There are people there."

"Where?" He said. "It's just a street side with no people."

Suddenly a silhouette of about five men appeared behind Ken-kun.

"Watch out!" I said but it was too late.

Each of the men are holding Ken-kun's limbs as if they're gonna pull them out brutally.

I then realize, these were our bodyguards back at home.

"Glad you're safe, dear!" A woman appeared out of the shadows.

It is of course, my mother.

"Did he hurt you?" She said. "Team, make him suffer!"

"O-ouch!" Ken-kun said as the men pull him on each of the limbs. "It's me! Kentaro Oda!"

"Oh, really?" She said. "Pull it more, boys!"

"Mother!" I said. "What are you doing?"

"He told you ran away without my permission, right?" She said. "So I'm punishing him."

"Mother, I ran on my own." I said. "Let him go!"

"Okay fine." She said. "But can I at least-"

"Mother!" I said.

"Let him go, boys!" She commanded and immediately, Ken-kun fell into the ground.

"Ouch!" He said. "Thank you for letting go."

"Are you okay?" I ran towards him to check on him.

"I was being pulled on every limb as if I was on a torture room." He said. "So, yeah. I'm fine."

"What are you wearing?" My mother interrupted. "Looks good on you, why won't you wear clothes like that more often?"

"You're the one who forced me to wear kimono all the time." I said.

"Oh, of course." She said. "Anyway, Kentaro-san, stand up. It's rude to lie down on the street sides."

"Thank you for reminding me." He said as he gets up. "What do you want?"

"Well of course, to check on my daughter who ran away from me." She said. "Good thing I threatened- uh I meant, asked Kazu where she was."

"Well, she's fine." He said. "Do you really hate me that much?"

"Not really." She said. "I just hate the idea of you and Haruhi-chan getting married hastily."

This is the one thing I realize from mother. She always hated us being together but never said we should stop. Is there something she's not telling us.

"Mother, actually we're officially dating." I said.

She paused for a while and looked at us for a few second.

"Okay, I believe you." She said. "I can see both of you aren't playing anymore, being me as a-"

"Former actress, yes we know." I said. "So you're no longer will be overprotective of me?"

"Of course I still will." She said. "But mark my words, your father will be a hard nut to crack."

"We will prove we can." Ken-kun said.
