(Sorry for the short chapter!)
California's POV

"Hazel!" I screamed, tears running down my face. The shots from my pistol blocked out her whimpers and pleas for help. Each walker crowded around her small body on the ground, occasionally looking up to growl or snarl at me.
Eventually the cries came to an end; the only noise was that of the walkers moaning and munching on her flesh.
I kicked at the monsters attempting to scatter them away from my small sister's remains, and finally, I nailed the last one in the head.
My lower lip trembled as I slowly crawled to Hazel's body. Her neck was bleeding and her stomach was ripped apart. I gently brushed the dirty blonde hair out of her face to reveal her pale skin and her eyes closed, blood smeared across her left cheek. I let out a sob and clutched her body.
I promised mom I would keep her safe.
She was still so young and now she was dead.
All because of me.

But then she came back.
